According to WebMD, a new British study shows that eating breakfast before exercise in the morning can burn more calories. A recent study published in the American Journal of Physiology, Endocrinology and Metabolism conducted a small-scale test on 12 healthy men.
This 12 man rode his bike for an hour in the morning, but the time for breakfast was different. Either have breakfast with milk porridge two hours before exercise or have breakfast after exercise.
The researchers tested the blood sugar level and muscle glycogen level of volunteers. They found that eating breakfast increased the speed at which the body burned carbohydrates during exercise, and also increased the speed at which the body digested and metabolized food after exercise.
Dr Rob Edinburgh, co-director of the study at the University of Bath, said: "We also found that eating breakfast before exercise will increase the burning of carbohydrates during exercise. These carbohydrates come not only from the breakfast just eaten, but also from glycogen stored in our muscles.
The increased utilization of muscle glycogen may explain why breakfast is consumed during exercise after lunch, and blood sugar clearance will be faster. "
Javier gonzalez, a senior lecturer at the University of Bath and co-director of the study, said: "This is the first time to study how breakfast before exercise affects our reaction to diet after exercise.
This study shows that eating breakfast before exercise may "stimulate" our bodies and prepare for fast storage of nutrients when eating after exercise. "
However, this study only evaluates the short-term response of breakfast and exercise, and the long-term impact of this work is not clear. It is necessary to conduct research to see if eating breakfast before and after regular exercise will affect your health.
