Why is Zhengzhou also called Greentown?
Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, has won the reputation of "Greentown" because of its good greening.

However, where did Greentown come from? There are three kinds of statements:

Statement 1: 1956, Zhengzhou was awarded a bright red award flag by the Ministry of Forestry. 1959 Zhengzhou's experience was commended at the National Urban Greening Conference. After the meeting, representatives from more than 30 cities came to Zhengzhou to visit and study. In the same year, the famous writer Lee Joon praised Zhengzhou as a beautiful green city in an article commemorating the 10th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC). 1972, People's Pictorial published several photos of Fatong Street in Zhengzhou with the theme of "Green Man Zhengzhou". The photo is full of green, which makes many people in China know about the Fatong tree in Zhengzhou. Xi 'an Film Studio came to Zhengzhou to shoot the documentary "Urban Greening and Environmental Protection". During the period of 1984, the greening coverage rate in Zhengzhou reached 35.25%, and many people came here to learn the greening experience. Zhengzhou's title of "Greentown" is also slowly spreading all over the country.

Statement 2: There is a saying of "Greentown" which is highly recognized by the people: In the early 1970s, a leader flew over Zhengzhou and saw that Zhengzhou was a green ocean. He never lost his track: "Ah, Zhengzhou is so green, it is simply a Greentown." . The leader's words were heard by newspaper reporters around him and published in the daily newspaper at that time. After the news media reported, Zhengzhou's reputation as "Greentown" became famous all over the country. Since the praise of the leaders, the Zhengzhou municipal government and the garden department have stepped up their efforts to promote the surrounding greening by the urban area, especially the sand dunes in the northern suburbs have been fixed for greening soon. The situation that the wind and sand covered the sky disappeared, and Zhengzhou became a veritable "green city".

Statement 3: The most authoritative source of "Greentown" is 1990. Zhengzhou has a green coverage area of more than 2,683 hectares, with a green coverage rate of 35.25%, ranking third among provincial capitals in China. Since then, Zhengzhou has gained the reputation of "Greentown".

Either way, it is a good memory of Zhengzhou Greentown.

However, it is Fatong who has made outstanding contributions to Greentown. Jingsan Road and Wenhua Road are also the epitome of greening in Zhengzhou.

In 2007, Fatong officially became the "city tree" of Zhengzhou after public voting and the 32nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th Zhengzhou Municipal People's Congress.
