Treatment of hernia by western medicine

A, non-surgical treatment:

Smaller umbilical hernia, if the diameter is less than 1.5cm, can heal itself with the development of abdominal wall within 2 years.

In view of the rare umbilical hernia incarceration in infants, non-surgical treatment can be given first.

(1) adhesive tape sticking method:

Take a medical adhesive tape with a width of about 5 cm and a length of 6- 10 cm longer than the waist circumference of the sick child, cut it into a tongue shape about 5 cm in front of one end, and cut a horizontal opening in the middle of the other section for the opposite side to insert. After insertion, the waist and back with adhesive tape can be padded with gauze.

Be sure to stick it well when pasting, and the hernia sac should be empty or invaginated. Generally, it should be replaced every 1-2 weeks/time, and it can be used continuously for 3-6 months. An elastic band (elastic band) can be added around to prevent the adhesive tape from slipping.

The above operations should be completed by medical personnel because it is difficult to stick adhesive tape and there are many complications.

(2) Elastic abdominal belt method: This method is especially suitable for newborns and infants.

You can wear an elastic abdominal belt during the day, loosen it when you sleep, and adjust the tightness frequently. This method is simple to operate, which can not only prevent the umbilical hernia from bulging excessively, but also ensure the child's dietary intake and abdominal development elasticity.

Second, the surgical treatment:

Children over 2 years old who have not recovered from umbilical hernia should be treated by surgery.

The specific operation method is to make a corresponding arc incision at 1 ~ 2 cm below umbilical hernia, and expose the anterior sheath of rectus abdominis muscle on both sides with free flap. Incise the abdominal white line and hernia sac. If there is no complete hernia sac, cut the peritoneum. Retract the intestine, take out the hernia sac, and sew the peritoneal margin at the hernia ring. The transverse fascia of abdomen was sutured horizontally, then the white line of abdomen was sutured vertically, and the umbilical ring was closed to repair the weak area of abdominal wall. Finally, the flap with umbilical hole was sutured in situ.
