The reason why cotton fabric shrinks is that cotton fiber has strong water absorption. When they absorb water, cotton fibers expand laterally, shorten longitudinally, and then contract. It's just that regular manufacturers, considering this point, will make special treatment for cotton yarn that is not woven into cloth, or wash it once before the cloth is ready to wear, thus greatly reducing the shrinkage rate. As long as you wash normally according to the instructions on the clothes tag, there will generally be no obvious problems.
Prevent cotton clothes from shrinking;
1, temperature, only cold water can be used when washing cotton-padded jacket, and the temperature should be controlled below 60℃ and around 40℃. Once the water with higher temperature is used, even once, the clothes will shrink. Washing clothes with cold water will not shrink because of temperature factors.
2, mechanical movement, when washing clothes, the clothes should be rubbed, especially when washing with hot water, and the fibers are intertwined and felted repeatedly, so that the gaps between the fibers are getting smaller and closer, and the original dispersed state cannot be restored, and the fabric shrinks into a tight state. Therefore, when washing cotton and linen clothes, the serious stains on the clothes should be washed off by gentle scrubbing, and then the whole clothes can be gently scrubbed and rinsed.
3, drying, after washing clothes, the wrong drying method will also cause clothes to shrink. For example, in order to dry clothes quickly, put clothes in the sun to dry, or use a hot hair dryer to dry clothes, which will increase the temperature of clothes, thus causing clothes to shrink due to large temperature changes.
