When will the golden retriever be castrated?
1, the time to castrate the golden retriever

The castration of golden hair usually needs to be done in adulthood. However, the specific timing varies with gender, fertility and owner's needs.

For male golden retrievers, it is best to castrate them between 8 months and 1 year. Because the sexual maturity of male golden retriever has just begun and the development of reproductive organs has not yet reached adulthood, the risk of surgery is also low.

For matriarchal golden retrievers, it is best to have sterilization after the first estrus. Because every time the golden retriever is in estrus, there may be problems such as mammary gland hyperplasia, breast cancer and ovarian cyst, and sterilization can also prevent these diseases.

2. Effects after castration

The castrated golden retriever will have the following physiological changes:

Male golden retriever: after castration, the sexual desire, aggression and sense of smell of male golden retriever will change obviously, and the desire to fight against other dogs will also decrease. However, it should be noted that castration can not solve all behavioral problems, such as patrol desire and training, which requires the continuous training of the owner.

Maternal golden retriever: After castration, the estrus probability of maternal golden retriever will be reduced, and the risk of reproductive diseases will also be reduced. At the same time, because there will be no estrus cycle, there will be no more problems such as leucorrhea and attracting dogs of the opposite sex.

3. The risk of castration

Although castration is very mature and common, any operation has certain risks.

Generally speaking, the castrated golden retriever needs to be hospitalized 1-2 days after operation, and the owner needs proper care. Common postoperative reactions include loss of appetite, vomiting and fever. , but these situations usually disappear by themselves within 3-5 days.

If it is found that the castrated golden hair has obvious abnormalities, such as persistent high fever, severe bleeding from the wound, morbid vomiting, etc. You need to see a doctor in time.

4. How should the owner choose?

Whether to castrate the golden retriever or not depends on the owner's own needs and the way to take care of the dog.

Castration is not recommended if the owner wants to find a mate for the golden retriever to breed offspring. However, if the owner can't provide good care for the offspring and intentionally or unintentionally let the dog wander into the ranks of stray dogs, it is recommended to do sterilization.

If the owner is worried about personality or behavior problems, or often brings golden retrievers into contact with other dogs, sterilization is a better choice. However, the owner should also take seriously the follow-up behavior and training of dogs after sterilization to avoid uncontrollable safety hazards.
