The ecological conservation areas in Beijing include Mentougou District, Pinggu District, Huairou District, Miyun District, Yanqing District, Changping District and Fangshan District, with a land area of 1. 1.000 square kilometers, accounting for 68% of the city's area.

In order to promote the ecological conservation areas to implement the clear functional orientation of Beijing Urban Master Plan (20 16-2035), in June of 20 18 and 10, the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government issued the Implementation Opinions on Promoting Ecological Protection and Green Development in Ecological Conservation Areas, which made it clear that the protection of green mountains and green waters should be the first priority in ecological conservation areas.
