Detailed introduction:
Mother is the honorific title of the Chaoshan people to Mazu, the sea god. This is a common Tianhou Temple along the coast of China. Please come here to visit, mainly to understand its special significance in the development of Shantou.
In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, this is the coastal beach called "Shantou". Fishermen go out to sea from here and come back to dry their fishing nets here. Women often gather here, weaving fishing nets while waiting for their relatives to return from the sea, and gradually form a residential area, which is the earliest prototype of Shantou. During Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty, people built Tianhou Temple and Guandi Temple here. Fishing boats going out to sea and hipsters crossing the ocean all want to send farewell sacrifices here, beg for peace, and put some incense ashes and dirt on them to show their nostalgia for their hometown. This became the earliest building before Shantou opened its port, and it was also a sign that the overseas Chinese who came in early came back to find their roots, which was of great commemorative significance. Therefore, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit, rebuilt by the municipal government 1992, and a monument was erected to explain it.
