Its main functions are as follows:
First, it is particularly important to prevent mud and sand from entering the shoes when marching, or to prevent thorns on the roadside from scratching the trouser legs.
Second, prevent congestion and swelling of the calf during the long-distance emergency March. The ability of infantry with braces to March in an emergency is obviously higher than that without braces. Therefore, long-distance marching must be tied with straps, and straps are combat effectiveness.
Third, prevent ankle sprains when marching. This is the same as today's high-top sports shoes for ankle protection.
Fourth, when you are injured, you can temporarily bandage it to stop bleeding.
5. In case of emergency, you can attach a bandage to a rope or something to climb or cross the river.
Therefore, military leggings have many advantages, which are irreplaceable by boots. Not to save money. The US military had military leather shoes during World War II, but now they still use leggings.
However, the disadvantage of leggings is also obvious, that is, it is too troublesome to play leggings, and few soldiers like it. During World War II, the texture of American leggings was changed from thin cloth to thick canvas, and adjustable buttons were installed, which made leggings much more convenient. This is the standard uniform equipment of American infantry in the first half of World War II. It was not until 1943 that the United States mass-produced No.3 combat boots and stopped forcing infantry to wear bandages. However, the US Marine Corps still insisted on using bandages, even during the Korean War.
There is no habit of tying bandages in Germany's history, which may be related to its small size and lack of frequent long-distance forced marches. Russia is too cold to wear boots, so I don't like to use straps. However, except China, the United States and Japan, almost all overseas troops in Britain, such as Canada and Australia, have the habit of leggings.
After World War II, mechanization was realized, and long-distance marching was basically unnecessary, and military straps gradually withdrew from the historical stage.
