Methods/steps
Methods of identifying fat and thin AP:
Methods 1: New equipment, thin AP with LAP and CAP PID, fat AP with SAP PID.
Method 2: Connect the console to the AP: show version to obtain the version information of the AP system. You should pay attention to information such as "k9w7" and see that the version of the system has "w7", which proves that it is a fat AP. If the name has "***w8", it must be a thin AP.
Method 3: Use the console to connect to the AP. Fat AP can enter config terminal mode, while thin AP can't (that is, can't be configured).
The method of upgrading traditional fat AP to thin AP;
Press and hold the MODEL button on the AP to turn on the power of the AP, and do not release the MODEL button until the indicator light turns red. During startup, you will see that the default IP address of the AP is 10.0. 1, and will send a broadcast (to 255.255.255.255) to find the TFTP server. Try to download the corresponding IOS from the TFTP server (search for the file with the same name as the default file name on the AP, and pay attention to the information on the AP, similar to "c1140-k9w7-tar.default"). At this time, you only need to set your computer's IP address to 10.0.0 network segment (and AP network segment) and connect the AP with the computer with a network cable (connect the network cable first, or you won't broadcast for TFTP). When a file with the same file name is searched, it will be automatically downloaded to the AP, and the file will be automatically decompressed and restarted using this IOS. After automatic restart, fat AP will become thin AP.
Because many APS now use POE switches, it is not feasible to upgrade without purchasing power. This upgrade method is not applicable to many models of AP. Here is another upgrade method:
Step 1: Delete the original fat AP OS: Delete Flash: c1130-K9W8-MX.124-23c.ja9/c1kloc-0/30-K9W8.
Or clear flash directly: erase flash.
Step 2: turn on the tftp server and ensure that the tftp server and AP network can reach:
Console connection AP: copy TFTP:/10.x.x/ap3g1-k9w8-tar.124-23c.ja7.tarflash: ap3g1-k9w8-tar.65433.
Copy the compressed package of thin AP to flash
Step 3: restart AP, enter ROM mode, and decompress:
AP:tftp_init
AP:tar-xtract flash:ap3g 1-k9w 8-tar . 124-23c。 JA7.tar flash:
Associated Press: Turn it on
Step 4: AP will load the new IOS, display the version for verification, and delete the thin AP compressed package:
Delete flash: ap3g1-k9w8-tar.124-23c. JA7.tar
