Introduction to Laojun Mountain

Laojun Mountain, formerly known as Shi Jing, is located 3 kilometers southeast of Luanchuan County, the ancient capital of the 13th Dynasty. It is the main peak of the 800-mile Funiu Mountain range, with an altitude of 2,297 meters. It has a human history of more than 2000 years and is the longest mountain range in Taoism.

During the Spring and Autumn Period, Gigi Lai II, who is recognized as the ancestor of Taoism, went to this place to practice in seclusion, making it a "Taoist source" and a "ancestral home". The Northern Wei Dynasty began with the laojunmiao built on it to commemorate it. In the 11th year of Zhenguan (637), Emperor Taizong rebuilt the Tieding laojunmiao in Shi Jing and named it "Laojun Mountain", which became the holy land of the mainstream Quanzhen Taoism. In the thirty-first year of Wanli (1603), Ming Shenzong declared Laojun Mountain as a "world famous mountain" and built a temple at the expense, making it the only famous mountain in China named as "world famous mountain" by the emperor in history.
