Story background

This film was specially planned to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the American War. The whole film was shot in Thailand, telling the story that only 47 Japanese troops fought as many as 45,000 American troops. According to the story of a Japanese officer who led the remnants in Saipan for 16 months at the end of World War II, it is a blueprint.

Film source

In 2008, considering that the 20th11year scheduled for the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Pacific War could be released to the public, producer Nobu Iinuma and Okuda fought for authorization again. By this time, the author Don Jones had died and his wife lived in South Africa. She knew her late husband's long-cherished wish for many years before his death and agreed to the authorization. This film project, which has been brewing for more than 20 years, has finally started to operate. In the preparatory stage of this film, the producer found that the content of OBA was different from another work, Tapocha, and the story of the former was more entertaining, so he decided to combine the advantages of the two original works to create a script. Gregory Marquette, a Canadian playwright, and cellin gluck, a Hollywood filmmaker, wrote English scripts based on Dayu, and then Takuya Nishioka, a famous Japanese screenwriter, added Japanese perspectives based on Dayu Tea. The script took months to complete.

throw

The protagonist "Fox" in the film is played by Takeuchi Toyoto. This is the first time Takeuchi Toyo has appeared in a war movie. When I received the film contract, the script had not been released, only that it was a war movie. At that time, he felt a little confused. I don't know why he made a war film at this time. At the same time, he doesn't want to play an entertainment war movie with big scenes as the selling point. In the supporting roles, the Japanese side includes many actors, such as Toshiaki Karasawa, Mao Inoue and Takayuki Yamada. American candidates are auditioning in Hollywood instead of looking for Japanese-Americans living in Japan. Among them, Captain Lewis is played by Sean mcgowan, who has appeared in plays such as 24 Hours. He has lived in Misawa base for three years and has a certain understanding of Japan.

Receive military training and field trips.

Takeuchi Hiroshi devoted great enthusiasm to movies, receiving military training and dieting to lose weight. Takeuchi Toyo himself has never been on the battlefield, nor has he fired live ammunition. In order to be close to his role, he searched the internet for information and read related books, but he still couldn't catch people's mood in the war. So he went to the jungle of Saipan, asked someone to lead the way, and imagined the scene filled with smoke in the remnants of war. He also visited the tomb of Da Evergreen, visited his survivors, and tried his best to capture the feeling of the character.

American and Japanese directors

"Pacific Miracle" was co-produced by Japan and the United States, and was shot by several directors in groups. The main directors are Hideyuki Hirayama and cellin gluck, who are in charge of the Japanese part and the American part respectively. The special effects and action scenes are directed by Nobuhiro. The so-called distinguishing standard between Japanese part and American part is language. Even if there are American actors, if the language of the play is Japanese, Hirayama will direct it, and Geraker will lead the show. The styles of the two directors are very different. Hirayama is a typical Japanese style. Every scene must be filmed in Shoot before it is officially filmed. Basically, only one camera is used, and only two or three cameras will be turned on when there are special needs. Gerakl is an American, so he often shoots directly without rehearsal and needs more than two cameras. Even in the preparatory stage, the work of the two men has formed a contrast. Director Gerakl consulted a lot of information in the United States; However, there is no relevant information in Japan, and Hirayama can only rely on imagination. Captain Ota's son revealed that his father was a "silent, folk warrior-like man", which became the key to outline the protagonist's image. Hirayama admits that this film was born on the basis of huge information and a little hint.

Shooting process

The film started shooting on May 20th, 20 10, and was filmed in the jungle of Thailand for nearly two months. Similar to the multinational force, the film crew has 470 people, and the scene is often exchanged in Japanese, English and Thai. The main shooting location is Rayong House, which is three hours' drive from Bangkok, where there is naval land for live ammunition. However, the film crew must face the test of high temperature, strong wind and poisonous insects. When the somatosensory temperature is above 40 degrees Celsius, many people will get sick. The storm that will come every day repeatedly interrupts the work process; Japanese-made insect repellent has no effect on local mosquitoes in Thailand! To make matters worse, this move is almost impossible because of the unstable political situation in Thailand. When the producer recalled the filming process, he lamented that the completion of the film itself was a miracle.
