Synopsis of story:

According to legend, there is a demon snake in Chishui village, Yongtai, which leads to the hardship of local villagers. Later, 27-year-old Zhang Gong was invited to slay the snake demon. He fought with the snake demon and finally killed it with Liu Jian. This story later became the legend of Zhang Gong Sheng Jun, and was endowed with local color, hence the name Chishui Village.

Detailed process:

It is said that a long time ago, the snake demon of Chishui River ate a villager every day, causing the villagers to live in dire straits. Day after day, the life of the villagers becomes more and more difficult. Later, they learned that there was a man named Zhang Gong in Yuezhou Village next door. He is a well-connected saint who is good at exorcism. So, the villagers sent someone to ask Zhang Gong to come and help cut the demon.

Zhang Gong was only 27 years old at that time. After he came to Chishui village, he found that the villagers were living in poverty and decided to kill them. He searched for the snake demon along Chishui Creek, and finally found a huge python by the stream. Zhang Gong fought a fierce battle with the python. He waved the Liu Jian, but the python was too hard for the sword to cut in. Zhang Gong switched to a plow and finally hit the key part of the python. The python was in unbearable pain, so it cast a spell to make the water in Chishui River soar and wanted to drown Zhang Gong. But Zhang Gong is not afraid. He used magic to divert the flood and saved Chishui village from the flood.

Finally, Liu Jian with a bow killed the python, and the snake's blood turned red in the stream. To commemorate this victory, the villagers built the Zhanggong Temple in Chishui Village and changed the name of the village to Chishui Village. Today, you can also see huge stones in Zhanggong Temple and Chishui River in Chishui Village. It is said that these huge stones were made after pythons were killed.
