Mention the development and changes of 798, but also from the 1950s, the former GDR aided the construction of "Beijing North China Radio Joint Equipment Factory", that is, the 7 18 joint factory.
The 7 18 joint factory was designed and built by German institutions. Its main features are paying attention to meeting practical requirements, giving full play to the technical and aesthetic attributes of new materials and structures, concise modeling and flexible composition. This school was later called Bauhaus School.
In 1980s, in order to cooperate with the construction planning of Zhongguancun Electronic Science Park, the joint factory adjusted its industrial structure. In 2000, the original six factories, 7 18 and 798, were reorganized into Qixing group, located in the "urban-rural fringe" 798. Because of its proximity to the Central Academy of Fine Arts, favorable land price and quiet environment, some artists and galleries spontaneously gathered.
The 798 Art District really attracted the attention of people in the industry, which was marked by the opening of the exhibition "Beijing Ukiyo-e Painting" in Tokyo Gallery in 2002 and the stationing of photographer Xu Yong. Since then, more artists have begun to settle here because of the cluster effect.
