ELSEVIER's new global medical knowledge, The The Lancet, recently published a review article led by Dr. Adrian martino, pointing out that taking D (vitamin D) in addition to asthma drugs may reduce the risk of severe asthma attack. According to scientists' research data, taking vitamin D can significantly reduce the probability of asthma patients having a serious attack and going to the hospital or emergency department, from 6% to 3%. The number of asthma attacks requiring steroid treatment decreased from 0.44 to 0.28 per person per year. However, according to the data, vitamin D supplementation did not improve patients' lung function or daily asthma symptoms. The authors say it is not clear whether vitamin D supplementation will actually only benefit asthma patients with vitamin D deficiency. Therefore, more research data are needed to support and demonstrate before the official suggestions are given. This article is from Elsevier's New Knowledge of Global Medicine.
