The PS operation version of this tutorial is CS6, and Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS5 can be used. If you use CS4 and earlier versions, it may be slightly different. It is recommended to use the latest version. Combined with the tutorial operation, you can choose your own material, or you can use the following figure as the operating material.
original drawing
Figure 00
The picture below is a close-up of the face.
Figure 0 1
After softening, the final effect is as follows.
Figure 02
Step 1: Copy the original layer
After opening the image in Photoshop, you can see that the material layer exists as a background layer in the Layers panel.
Figure 03
As mentioned earlier, the first step is to remove the marks from the portrait. Copy the portrait first, press Alt (Win)/Option(Mac), and drag the portrait layer thumbnail to the New Layer button at the bottom of the layer panel, as shown below.
Figure 04
Press Alt (Win)/Option(Mac) and drag the layer to the New Layer button at the bottom of the Layers panel. Before creating a new copy of a layer, you can call the Layer Settings panel and set the layer name. Set the name of the layer copy here to? Defect repair? , and then click OK to close the settings panel.
Figure 05
At this time, you can see in the layer panel that the newly-built defect repair layer is above the original portrait layer and displayed in blue as the current operation object, so that the current operation will be applied to the defect layer, but the original layer will not be changed.
Figure 06
Step 2: Select the stain repair brush tool.
Next, select the Fixing Brush tool in the toolbar.
Figure 07
Step 3: Set the repair mode to content recognition.
After selecting the stain repair brush tool, click the repair mode in the settings bar as content recognition. Content recognition is
Photoshop CS5 newly added stain repair function for the first time can make the stain repair effect of defective parts better.
Step 4: Click to fix the defect.
By clicking on the defect position with a stain repair brush, the image around the defect position can be used to replace the defect image.
If a person has a big red spot on his forehead, it may be acne or mosquito bag. Here we need to control the repair range and sampling range by setting the brush size. Press the keyboard? [? And then what? ]? You can quickly resize the brush. As shown below, the diameter of the brush just covers the red dot.
Figure 09
After clicking the brush at the position of the red dot, Photoshop will calculate and find the ideal skin texture around the red dot to replace the red dot, and adjust the transition between the red dot and the surrounding color to make the whole look flawless. Of course it can't be perfect, but it works well.
Figure 10
For the spots on the forehead, you can also use the spot repair brush to click repair, just adjust the brush size to cover the red dot.
Figure 1 1
If you feel that the repair effect is not good, or the brush size is too large or too small, you can press Ctrl+Z (Win)/Command+Z (Mac) to cancel the operation, and then adjust the brush diameter and repair position until the effect is acceptable.
Figure 12
After repairing all the red spots on the forehead, start other repair steps.
Figure 13
Continue to use the stain repair brush to remove the flaws on the portrait face, including the small acne on the portrait chin. It should be remembered that defect repair is only for temporary skin problems, such as acne, erythema and other skin problems, and it is not allowed to move for moles or scars with human characteristics. Because skin treatment only makes the skin look better, not plastic surgery, and changes the portrait beyond recognition.
It doesn't take much time to fix the defect. The following figure shows the effect comparison before and after defect repair. Has it changed much?
Figure 14
Step 5: Copy the defect repair layer.
After the defect repair work was basically completed, the skin was smooth and softened. Press Alt (Win)/Option (Mac) to drag the defect repair layer onto the New Layer button in the Layers panel.
Figure 15
Name the copied layer? Skin softening? , click OK to close the settings panel.
Figure 16
After completion, the skin softening layer will be re-formed on the defect repair layer.
Figure 17
Step 6: Apply Gao Fancha Retention Filter.
Next, the skin will be softened with the Gao Fancha retention filter. In the main menu bar, select? Filter > other > Gao Fancha reservation? .
Figure 18
If you are familiar with Gao Fancha reservation, it may be because you use it to sharpen images. In this case, the Gao Fancha retention filter is not used to sharpen the image, but some steps are similar. Gao Fancha hold filter is mainly to find the edge in the image, that is, the place where the color or brightness between adjacent pixels suddenly changes. In portrait images, these edges are located in hair, eyes, mouth and other parts. On the other hand, because the skin texture transition is smooth, it will make the Gao Fancha retention filter ignore it. We will use this property to soften the skin.
When sharpening an image, the Gao Fancha hold filter will detect the edge and enhance the contrast effect, thus achieving the purpose of sharpening, but it will not affect the skin. We need to do the opposite. Gao Fancha hold filter is used to detect the edge, and the edge is not softened.
In the Gao Fancha color filter settings panel, the radius refers to the setting value that controls the edge width. In other words, after Photoshop detects the edge, the radius determines how many attachment pixels the edge contains. Small radius will detect small edges, but we can only soften the areas outside the edges, so the more edges detected, the better, because the application of softening effect is more accurate. In this case, the radius is set to 24 pixels.
Figure 19
If your photo has a low resolution or a far field of view, it is better to set a small radius. Here you can try to set the radius to 18 pixels or 12 pixels, depending on the characteristics of the image itself. Why should we focus on the setting value of radius here? Because if the selected number is a multiple of 3, it will be helpful for the next step. For example, 24/ 18/ 12 can be divisible by 3.
Click OK to close the Gao Fancha filtering settings. At this time, the image will become a little gray, which means that the filter has not detected the edge, and the edge is now displayed in the form of high contrast.
Figure 20
Step 7: Select Gaussian blur filter.
Next, add Gaussian blur filter effect to Gao Fancha's reserved filter effect. You may think this effect is not good, but it can actually bring excellent skin effect. In the main menu bar, select? Filter > blur >; Gaussian blur? .
Figure 2 1
Just as Gao Fancha keeps the filter setting, the radius of Gaussian blur filter needs to be set here. The radius value here is preferably set to 1/3 of the radius value of the Gao Fancha hold filter, that is, 8 pixels.
Figure 22
Click OK to close the window. After adding the Gaussian blur filter, the Gao Fancha-preserving filter looks softer and has less details.
Figure 23
Step 8: Set the layer blending mode to linear light.
Set the blending mode of the skin softening layer to linear light, and blend the Gao Fancha-preserving filter effect into the image.
Figure 24
After fusing the filter effect, the contrast of the image appears very high, and it has the feeling of excessive sharpening. But don't worry, it's only temporary.
Figure 25
Step 9: layer inversion
If you just want to over-sharpen the image, it's done now. If you want to continue to soften the skin, you must continue the following steps. The key to using Gao Fancha retention filter as softening rather than sharpening is to reverse the layer. In the menu bar, select? Image > new adjustment layer > invert? , or press Ctrl+I (Win)/Command+I (Mac).
Figure 26
After the layer is reversed, the image will change from over-sharpening to blurred.
Figure 27
Step 10: Turn on the blending option.
To reduce the blur effect, click the button in the layer panel in the figure below.
Figure 28
In the pop-up menu, click to select the blending option.
Figure 29
In the open Blending Options dialog box, you can see that there are two pairs of sliders at the bottom, one is to adjust this layer, and the other is to adjust the next layer. Through these two pairs of sliders, you can adjust the blending effect of the currently selected layer and the layer below. You need to adjust the skin softening layer here, so don't worry about it below.
Figure 30
There are two sliders at both ends of the gradient area, the rightmost one is the bright part of the control image, and the leftmost one is the dark part of the control image.
Figure 3 1
The slider looks like a whole, but it can actually be divided into two halves and moved separately. If you just click one of the sliders to move, it will produce a very obvious and rough transition effect. If you slide the slider separately, it will produce a slightly smooth effect.
First, reduce the glare, press Alt (Win)/Option (Mac) to click on the slider on the far right, and then move to the left. Pressing Alt (Win)/Option (Mac) allows Photoshop to separate the slider to be moved to form a smooth transition effect.
As the bright slider moves to the left, the bright halo effect gradually disappears. Pull to the left as far as possible to eliminate the halo effect.
Figure 32
After moving the right slider to the left by half, the fuzzy effect of strong light gradually disappears to be inconspicuous until the fuzzy halo effect of black still exists.
Figure 33
Press Alt (Win)/Option (Mac), drag half of the slider to the left and move it to the right to remove the black blur at the end.
Figure 34
When the adjustment is complete, click OK to close the Blending Options dialog box. Now the skin looks much softer.
Figure 35
Step 1 1: Add layer mask.
Through the above operation, the skin is softened, but the eyes, lips, hair and other positions of the portrait are softened, and the redundant softening effect needs to be covered below. Press Alt (Win)/Option (Mac) and click the Add Mask button in the Layers panel.
Figure 36
The layer mask we added is white by default, but press Alt (Win)/Option (Mac) to add layer mask, and Photoshop will automatically add a black layer mask to cover up the softening effect of the whole layer.
Figure 37
Select the brush tool
Select the brush tool to show the softening effect of the skin part.
Figure 38
Step 13: Set the foreground color to white.
To show the softening effect, you need to use a white brush. Photoshop automatically uses the current foreground color as the brush color, so you need to adjust the foreground color to white. You can see the foreground color and background color near the toolbar conversion button. If it is not white, you can press d to reset the color to white.
Figure 39
Step 14: Show softening effect.
After choosing a white brush, you only need to apply it to the skin to show the softening effect. Of course, the effect of soft brush will be better. Press [,] to quickly adjust the brush size, and press shift+[ or] to adjust the brush hardness.
Check other settings before painting. Normal mode, opacity 100%, flow 100%. If the previous settings are not changed back, the operation effect may be affected.
Figure 40
Starting from the forehead of the portrait, because it is painted directly on the layer mask, there is no trace of the brush, but there will be a softening effect.
Figure 4 1
Draw the skin around the nose, cheeks and eyes, and adjust the brush size in time according to the area. If you accidentally draw a wrong place, you can press the X key to switch the foreground color to black, hide the wrong part, and then press the X key to switch the foreground color to white to continue drawing.
Figure 42
Continue to draw on your mouth and chin, and be careful to avoid your lips.
Figure 43
Check layer mask.
If you want to see where the mask is drawn, press Alt (Win)/Option (Mac) and click the thumbnail of the mask in Layer Mask.
Figure 44
At this time, the image will become a masked black and white image, and white is the place to be displayed. Although it looks a little scary, it can detect and make sure there is no mistake in drawing. If problems are found, you can directly adjust the mask with a brush, then press Alt (Win)/Option (Mac) again and click the thumbnail of the mask in the layer mask to return to the normal image.
Figure 45
Step 15: reduce opacity
Usually, after the above adjustments, the softening effect will be a bit too strong. You can reduce the softening effect by reducing the opacity of the layer. Find the opacity setting item in the layer panel, which is generally set to 40%~60%, but it should be determined according to the actual image, and it is set to 50% here.
Figure 46
After reducing the opacity of the layer, the final effect is as follows.
Figure 47
