The popularity of Zhu Jin woodcarving is enduring.
Zhu Jin woodcarving has been popular since Han, Tang and Song Dynasties. Temples, ancestral halls, residential buildings, sedan chairs and wooden beds are all carved and painted. The Zhu Jin Woodcarving Thousand-work Bed and Ten-work Sedan, which are preserved in Ningbo Guobao Temple, are exquisite and incomparable, and gather the essence of Zhu Jin Woodcarving. Take Wangong sedan chair as an example. The sedan chair is carved with wood, covered with vermicelli and decorated with universal frames and lenses. As a traditional craft in Ningbo, Zhu Jin woodcarving spread from Ningbo to Japan as early as the Tang Dynasty. In the second year of Tang Tianbao (AD 743), when Jian Zhen, a monk of the Tang Dynasty, traveled eastward to Japan, his ship was wrecked in the area of Langgoupu in Mingzhou (Ningbo). When he was placed in Ashoka Temple by local officials in Mingzhou, he studied and inspected Ningbo arts and crafts. When he traveled to Japan, he brought with him craftsmen engaged in wood carving in Zhu Jin. Jian Zhen successfully crossed Japan in the 12th year of Tianbao (AD 753) and lived in Dongda Temple in Nara. This temple is the first famous temple in Nara, Japan. In 755 1 1 year, in the lecture hall of this temple, Jian Zhen used Zhu Jin's wood carving skills to create a statue of Guanyin, which was 20 feet long and 5 feet long, and put it in it. In June 756 AD, Japan presented the relics of Emperor Wu to the Buddha, including 100 Jiafo Store, Lushenafo Store and Guanyin Store, all of which were pure gold Guanyin Store. Jian Zhen and his sculptors from Mingzhou and Yangzhou participated in these sculpture techniques. The offerings of the East Courtyard include the craft treasures brought by Jian Zhen. At the same time, the interior of the Japanese Tang Zhao Temple, founded by Jian Zhen and his disciples, is mostly decorated with Ningbo-style Zhu Jin wood carvings. The style of Zhu Jin woodcarving in the lecture hall and the Kaishan hall in the northwest corner of the relic hall is similar to that of Asoka Temple in Ningbo. It can be seen that Zhu Jin woodcarving, a wonderful flower, has been in full bloom in Japan as early as 1000 years ago, which has become a historical witness of Sino-Japanese friendship.
