Fat is born! Is this to make me give up treatment?

My friend Miao Jie is a "star eater". Especially in the season of wearing skirts in summer, she can always harvest a laundry list of envy and jealousy:

I'm already a mother, and I'm as slim as when I didn't have a baby. Never go on a diet, overeat or go to the gym; Even if you eat hamburger fried chicken several times a week, drink milk tea and cola, and often cook a midnight snack, you are not worried about gaining meat at all.

People who drink water and grow meat around are envious and confused. They can't wait to send her to a physical examination to see where she has hidden all her food. ...

Coincidentally, some time ago, I wrote an article about a 4-year-old fat man in Jiangxi who died in his sleep. You may not know that children are obese ... We were originally discussing the problem of childhood obesity, but I didn't expect to receive some mothers complaining about whether their children are obese:

In order to find out why some people just can't eat fat, the BBC really did an experiment like this:

Gather 10 thin people who claim that they can't eat fat, let them eat a lot of high-calorie food every day and don't exercise to see what their health will be like.

This is the BBC Horizon documentary series. Why are thin people not fat? Thin people are not fat.

After watching this documentary, your understanding of your body may be turned upside down.

Duration of this video 1 hour. If I don't have time to watch it, here is my feedback ~

Before the experiment began, thin volunteers came out to show off their good appetite and good figure to pull hatred.

In the experiment, they were asked to consume an average of 5000 calories a day.

What is the concept of 5000 calories? Adults usually only need to consume about 2000 calories a day. One serving of spaghetti with meat sauce is about 500 calories, which is equivalent to eating 10 serving a day.

Moreover, volunteers can't do any exercise and walk up to 5000 steps every day. The experiment lasted for 4 weeks.

Scientists require the upper limit of its weight gain to be 15% (average weight gain per person 10kg). After four weeks, if someone gains more than 15%, they will be eliminated.

This experiment was actually inspired by a prison experiment in the United States in the 1960s. Scientists want to observe the changes of hormone levels after prisoners eat fat.

It was found that 1 year, some prisoners could not reach the target weight no matter how they ate. Finally, they came to a conclusion that some people may be doomed not to be fat.

After testing a series of basic physical data, BBC volunteers started the mode of crazy eating Hesse.

In order to gain weight faster, volunteers binge on all kinds of high-calorie chocolate foods and desserts, just screaming at them.

This way of eating lasted for 4 weeks. Guess what? This 10 thin man who calls himself "not fat" is fat!

Key points: Excessive calorie intake+lack of exercise can make people fat.

However, although all the volunteers became fat, they did not reach the standard of 15% overweight, and the way of getting fat was different.

Some people's fat rate soared, while others gained weight, but their fat content hardly increased.

This Asian brother named Martin Wong has gained 8% of his original weight and gained 4.5kg. From the comparison pictures, he has hardly changed and his stomach is not big.

After testing, his fat only increased by 2.4%, and the rest was muscle!

Others go on a diet and spend money on going to the gym, but they may not be able to lose weight successfully. My little brother specializes in picking high-calorie foods to eat, and he can easily grow a muscle without exercise. Is it too irritating? !

What is even more irritating is that this result is determined by everyone's genes, which can be said to be destiny takes a hand.

In the documentary, the scientist Dr. Eric Lavesen explained that in ancient times, when famine came or prey could not be caught for a long time, fat people would survive more easily than thin people because they had fat to consume. In the end, these "fat ancestors" passed on the gene of "easy to hoard fat" to future generations.

But there are also a few "thin ancestors" who survived, and their descendants are probably such people as this 10 volunteer.

Scientists have found that there is a gene called FTO that specifically controls people's appetite. This gene can also be called "food gene".

They did an experiment specially for kindergarten children: put some biscuits next to those full children and see what would happen.

Some children are not tempted at all, and will push the cookies away and continue to do their own thing; Some children will put down their brushes and start eating cookies.

"You will eat when you are full" means that FTO gene is at work, that is to say, a person's appetite and desire for food are established at an early age. Such people may also be heavier than others.

Children who "don't eat when they are full" may have some kind of genetic protection variant, which makes them unconsciously "control" their weight.

Sure enough, the starting line is very important!

10 volunteers who participated in the fattening experiment also said the same thing: stop eating when you are full.

Therefore, they were forced to eat and drink seafood every day during the experiment, which made them very uncomfortable.

Even some people can't eat all the calories they consume in a day, because they can't help but spit it out. Through this reaction, the brain forces the body not to consume more calories than it needs. It seems that to lose weight, you must control your mouth! Naturally, if you can't do it, you will be forced.

For overweight people, the situation is just the opposite.

In the documentary, a research team first asked overweight experimenters to lose 10% of their original weight through starvation therapy. Then strictly control the diet and give enough calories, that is to say, they have just had enough to eat, and I hope they can keep fit.

However, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) monitoring found that the brain reaction of these overweight people to food showed that "the body is still in a state of semi-starvation".

Scientists explained that because these people have been obese for a long time, their brains and bodies will think that their original weight is the most correct.

This shows that whether a person eventually becomes thinner or fatter depends on the control of the brain and body in addition to the genes mentioned above.

In addition, scientists also concluded that the more "fat" volunteers eat, the higher the basal metabolic rate (that is, our bodies need energy to lie down).

Therefore, the excess calories they consume will be quickly metabolized by the body and will not cause a lot of fat accumulation (envy).

When people eat fat, fat is actually fat cells in the body. Experts who study fat explained that the original number of fat cells in our body is certain. Once we start to gain weight, the volume of fat cells begins to grow and increase.

Although the volume of fat cells increases to a certain extent, they will stop growing. But the bad news is that fat cells that stop growing will never eliminate themselves (except liposuction), and they will accumulate as much fat as possible.

Studies also show that our bodies are prone to produce more fat cells in childhood and adolescence, which means that if we are obese in the growing stage, we are likely to be obese all our lives.

This 10 volunteer is "thin" when he was a child, which is one of the reasons why they are not fat when they grow up.

The most heartbreaking thing is that after the end of the experiment 1 month, the volunteers who gained more or less weight returned to their original appearance.

Because in the absence of human intervention, the internal mechanism includes genes, brain, basal metabolic rate and so on. And restore them to their natural weight.

Change is hard to achieve, and it can only be said that this is life. ...

Perhaps to comfort the disheartened fat man, at the end of the documentary, scientists "served" a bowl of chicken soup:

"Although it is difficult to maintain weight for a long time after significant weight loss, losing a little weight will make you healthier and easier to maintain the results of weight loss."

Knocking on the blackboard, the BBC's "evil" video tells us:

1. weight control should start with dolls, otherwise it is easy to gain weight for a while and for life.

There is no secret weapon to lose weight, it is nothing more than changing life and eating habits, keeping your mouth shut and holding your legs. Do not eat genes to control appetite, rely on willpower; There is no natural high basal metabolic rate, so it is supplemented by exercise.

Losing weight is a protracted war, haste makes waste, don't go on a diet blindly. Because it's useless, it will rebound soon.

4. Brain science is really a practical subject. Knowing the knowledge of brain science can make us know more about our bodies.

If you haven't seen enough BBC documentaries, you can watch Sandra, a neuroscientist and postdoctoral fellow at Yale University. Sandra Aamodt's Ted talk: "why does dieting often not work?" 》。

If you are an adult fat person and don't have enough perseverance to fight obesity, then eat and drink, and don't have psychological burden, because your body has adapted to you who is fat (as long as you don't get too fat).

Seeing this, I feel at ease. What about you?
