Introduction of West Fort Site
The West Fort was formerly known as Yingkou Fort and Wugouying Fort. It landed on the left bank of Haikou, Liaohe River, north of the western end of Bohai Street in Yingkou City. Because of its geographical location in the western suburbs of Yingkou City, Yingkou people call it the West Fort. Xibao was founded in the eighth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1882) and completed in the fourteenth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1888). It is the most important coastal defense facility in modern northeast China. The battery is rammed with sand, lime and loess. The whole building includes: battery, platform trench, platform wall, city gate, shadow wall city, reservoir, water tunnel, suspension bridge, armory and barracks. The scale of the building is grand and the structural layout design is reasonable, which fully embodies the intelligence of our people. This fortress played an important role in the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-0/894+65438.
