Buddhism is one of the three major religions in the world, and Zen is just one of many schools of Buddhism.
Buddhism has a history of more than 2,500 years, which was founded by Gautama Siddharta, the prince of the Kapylovi Kingdom in ancient India (now Nepal) (refer to Buddha's birthday). Western countries generally believe that Buddhism originated in India, and India is actually trying to shape the image of a "Buddhist holy land". Zen is a branch of Buddhism.
2. The original intention is different.
"Buddha" is a personality whose reason, emotion and ability reach the most perfect state at the same time. In other words, the Buddha is a person with great wisdom, great compassion (or all-wisdom and all-compassion) and great strength. Zen is a kind of behavior based on "quietness", which originated from human instinct and developed from ancient ancestors, forming various systematic practice methods and coexisting in various sects.
3. Different consciousness.
Buddha is conscious, aware of him, aware of the perfection of his behavior. Ordinary people have no feet, only the sound edge is felt, and the Bodhisattva knows him, which shows the dignity of the Buddha. You can also understand the Buddha as a miraculous fairy, and the Buddha has feelings. In other words, the person who has gained great wisdom and seen through all three phases of the universe is the Buddha.
Buddha is similar to the Chinese word "sage", but "sage" can't express consciousness and practice, so translators at that time used the word "Buddha".
Zen produces supreme wisdom in meditation, and proves with supreme wisdom that everything is true wisdom. This is called Zen.

Extended data:
First, the China Buddhist School.
Since Buddhism was introduced into China in Han Dynasty, there have been many different factions and opinions. In order to eliminate conflicts and avoid contradictions, Buddhists in China integrate and digest various opinions by judging Buddhism. There are eight schools, ten schools and thirteen schools in China. According to the theory of Mahayana Eight Cases, Zen, Purity, Dharma and Intimacy belong to practice, while Sanlun, Tiantai, Huayan and Zhixue are good and righteous. These four theories are summarized as follows:
1, three rounds of cases
Thirdly, it was originally a branch of Indian Mahayana Buddhism, which was introduced to the south of the Yangtze River from Sanglang in Liaodong in the late Northern Qi Dynasty (550 ~ 577) and reached its peak in Jiaxiang Ji Zang in the early Tang Dynasty. The basic classics on which this case is based are:
(1) China's teachings refuted the wrong views of Brahmanism, Hinayana Buddhism and other Mahayana sects, and converted to the doctrine of the Middle Way.
(2) Twelve doctrines to correct the misconceptions of Mahayana Buddhists themselves.
(3) A hundred schools of thought refute the heretical thoughts of Brahmanism. Its theory mainly has three aspects:
(1) Breaking evil makes sense. In other words, all gains and insights are always destroyed: all gains and insights are destroyed, such as rejecting outsiders' views on Jaken's "true self", covering up the "real existence" of Bitan Yinyue School, refuting the "emptiness" of the true self school and destroying Mahayana. Breaking inside and out, denouncing the size, the purpose is "nothing."
(2) the difference between the true meaning and the common reason, that is, to establish the law according to the common reason without moving the true meaning; Tell the truth with the truth, not with a bad pen name. Therefore, according to the two truths, emptiness is emptiness, emptiness is emptiness, so it is right to show no gain.
(3) Eight don't mean the middle way, which reveals the principle that all laws are immortal, unchanging, different, and will not come or go, thus getting rid of the bias of "four-to-eight schemes" such as birth and death, abnormality, coming and going, indicating that everything in the universe has no fixed self. To sum up, this faction dispels all paranoia by "breaking without standing"; Taking "no income" as its purpose, it is believed that all laws are dead without phase; Therefore, the so-called delusion and failure to become a Buddha are all pseudonyms, but with "consciousness" as the noumenon, all methods have died out, and "no right view" is the most wonderful method.
2. Tiantai Sect
In the seventh year of Jiande in Xuan Di (575), Master Zhiyi entered Tiantai Mountain and founded this school. Tracing back to the Dragon Tree, after Zen master Huiwen of the Northern Qi Dynasty got the wonderful method of "one thought and three views", it is said that Zen master Huisi of Nanyue realized the Dharma Samadha, wrote Mahayana to stop the view, and later taught Master Zhiyun to practice the convenient and prosperous teaching view of Samadha, and achieved Tiantai Sect according to the theory of "sucking empty space" in Beisu.
The doctrine of this Sect says that one heart has ten dharma realms. When you look at this heart, you will understand the truth that "worry is bodhi, and life and death are nirvana". There are three main points in its outline: a world view of three thousand, a philosophy of three views, and three true harmony.
It is pointed out that the integration of various laws, the unity of the whole universe, and the principle of various phenomena (things or hearts) are the harmony of three truths (emptiness, falsehood and neutrality), which means that things or life itself is reality, that is, such as; Advocating that all laws are equal is the central idea of Tiantai Zhiguan.
What's more, Tiantai Sect takes Hokkekyo as the canon, which directly shows the philosophy of the reality of various laws. From the aspect of "reason", China's emptiness, falsehood and three truths show the proper body of various laws; From the aspect of "things", it reveals the idea of "sex tool" (sex virtue is the basic tool). The so-called mutual integration of directors is the reality of various laws and the nature of the legal world (Farr nature).
3. Hua Yanzong
Also known as Shouxian Sect and Fajie Sect, it was named after Hua Yan Jing. Du Shun (557 ~ 640) was the founder of Huayan Sect. Before the establishment of this case, there was a school of land theory in China, with the family's "Ten Classics" as the key link. On the one hand, Hua Yanzong absorbed the teachings of geocentric sects and entered the prosperous period of Buddhism in China;
On the other hand, it unified the old and new theories of various sects at that time, based on the theory of knowing only the origin. On the other hand, in the theory of evaluating teaching, although on the surface, it criticized the Tiantai theory and the knowledge-only theory, but in fact it borrowed from the two theories.
On the whole, however, Hua Yanzong established the meaning of imperial clan according to Huayan Jing, and further clarified that all laws in the legal world are equal or even equal because of emptiness from the perspective of Prajna thought, and obtained the endless concept of "one is in harmony with many", the so-called "so-called".
This important theory also includes six meanings, six phases and ten mysterious doors. In order to show his thinking on the origin of dharma without hindrance.
4, only know the sect
This ancestor revered Maitreya, India, as his ancestor. Maitreya came to talk about the yogi's theory of land, instead of inheriting the teaching method, he used the theory of solemnity and Mahayana. Relatives of the world then only know twenty theories and thirty theories.
Xuanzang went to India to seek dharma during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, and learned yoga and epistemology from sages and wise ascetics. After returning to China, his disciple Kui Ji wrote a profound epistemological narrative work under the dictation of Master Xuanzang. He also wrote it as the palm center of epistemology to explain it, and Wei became an epistemological Sect.
The names of this sect are numerous and profound, with emphasis on analysis. There are five hundred methods (eight-mind method, fifty-mind method, eleven-color method, twenty-four corresponding method and six-inaction method), three self-natures (full-time, relying on others, achieving truth) and five natures (smell, sensation, bodhisattva, impermanence, etc.)
On the basis of "Araya's knowledge", this paper expounds the truth that "all laws are only knowledge, and there is nothing else except knowledge", which is rooted in Araya's knowledge of Tibetan seeds.
Seeds, also called "habits", are divided into two kinds: famous species and commercial species. Empirically, we should take knowledge as the center, turn the leaked spiritual knowledge into the true wisdom without leakage, turn the eighth knowledge into the wisdom of a great circle mirror, turn the seventh knowledge into the wisdom of equality, turn the sixth knowledge into the wisdom of wonderful observation, turn the first five knowledge into the wisdom of success, and finally return the observed knowledge to the void, which proves to be a world of "one ability".
Second, the origin of "Zen"
Zen is translated from the Sanskrit word Zen. In today's words, "Zen" is actually a foreign word, meaning "thinking cultivation" or "meditation", which belongs to one of the six degrees of Bodhisattva and refers to a method of practice.
The Buddha founded religion, and established "abstinence, determination and wisdom" as the basic three studies, which is the fundamental method that every Buddhist must practice. The "Zen" we are talking about here is the Zen advocated by Zen; There are both similarities and differences with the meditation in Six Degrees.
In India, "meditation" can be said to be the oldest practice method, which was popular long before the establishment of Buddhism. After Buddhism was introduced into China, all the ancestors and sects in the past dynasties took "meditation" or "Zen view" as the basis for practicing. Associated with "Zen" are Zen ideas, meditation, Zen mind, Zen meaning, Zen taste, Zen style, Zen machine and other Zen words derived from Zen, which are really colorful and charming.
After the rise of Zen, the "Zen" advocated by Zen has the same side as the original "Zen view" or "meditation", but it has its own different side. So what's the difference?
First, Zen's Zen is an understanding. It is not so much the "meditation degree" in the six degrees as the "wisdom degree" in the six degrees.
Secondly, Zen pays attention to the direct dialogue between scholars and their teachers to inspire the wisdom of scholars.
Thirdly, the first step of Zen is enlightenment, and it is believed that only by "practicing after enlightenment" can we get twice the result with half the effort.
Fourth, the practice of Zen Buddhism is to closely combine daily life with purifying people's hearts, thinking that "a normal heart is the Tao" and "Buddhism is inseparable from the world", thus following God into the WTO.
