Eating raw flesh and blood can make their fur smoother and better, regulate their stomachs and eliminate bad breath, and chew pieces of meat to wipe their teeth. The difference between cats and dogs is that cats don't need carbohydrates (that is, staple food) and vegetables.
Let's talk about what is raw flesh and blood first.
Muscle (meat and heart): The muscle here is not only the pure meat of chicken, duck and beef we eat in our daily life, but also the heart and roe deer. 80% of the total.
Liver: a kind of internal organs, which is essential. The total proportion is 5% (no more than 5%).
Other internal organs: such as kidney and brain, not necessarily but better. 5% of the total
Bones: Bones (but not big bones chewed by dogs like leg bones, but soft bones like chicken neck, quail and chicken). Remember not to cook the bones. If they are cooked hard, they will easily cut the cat's esophagus. Because many experts don't like to eat bones, they can use eggshell powder or calcium powder in Figure 7 instead.
Preparation method of eggshell powder: tear the eggshell, dry it (oven baking 18 minutes, 180 degrees), then grind it into powder, put it in a small pot and seal it, and add it when cooking meat.
How to take the first step
Before preparing to try raw meat, it is recommended to eat pure canned food for 3-5 days continuously, so that cats can better accept the transformation from plant protein to animal protein.
Moreover, all raw bones should be frozen for more than 48 hours before feeding (reducing the activity of microorganisms)
Let's talk about how my cat accepts raw meat first. At first, she bought a large piece of chicken breast and cut two small pieces (about 2cm) for her to taste. She licked it for the first time, then picked up the meat and ran to the corner to eat it slowly. Then I still eat canned food every day and feed her two pieces of meat at night. Two days later, I bought chicken hearts and chicken gizzards for her, cut them in half, and she could eat them. If the chicken gizzard is hard, I have to chew it for a while. But the liver! At first, she refused this kind of thing. I mixed some canned food and fed it to her before she accepted it. (I also heard that some livers are steamed, chopped and canned for feeding. ) Anyway, in less than five days, she basically accepted the raw flesh and blood! Later, I bought some chicken necks and quails and cut them into small pieces. She can chew them for you! (So don't underestimate their chewing power)
These are simply fed every day: two pieces of meat, a heart, a small piece of liver, a small piece of chicken neck with bones or quail. This feeding method lasted about two weeks, and I realized that I would feed my own flesh and blood for a long time, and I would be a professional!
Then I went to buy a huge stainless steel basin! It is used to make cat food for many days at a time, which is convenient for supplementing nutrition and does not require me to melt and cut meat every day.
The choice of raw flesh and blood
Meat choices: chicken, beef, mutton, duck, venison, kangaroo, rabbit, turkey, crocodile, bird, camel ... chicken heart, duck heart, sheep heart, chicken gizzard, duck gizzard ... only some meat is not common but can be fed. For example, I have eaten all the things listed in my family … but my cat doesn't like camel meat very much.
Selection of internal organs: chicken liver, duck liver, sheep brain, cow kidney, etc.
Selection of bones: chicken neck, duck neck, quail and broiler (whole chicken)
Recently, I found a new choice: it's called minced meat (that is, rabbit minced meat and kangaroo minced meat I marked in Figure 2). This is complete minced meat, including internal organs and bones. Therefore, this method can also choose bone intake. But it is not recommended to feed only this minced meat, because cats need minced meat to chew. Just eating this minced meat will easily lead to the degeneration of cat teeth and produce dirt. I always feed meat and minced meat together.
How many raw bones are fed?
It should be 4%-6% of the adult cat's weight.
If your cat is fat and doesn't like sports, it's 4%, if a lively cat has a certain amount of exercise, it's 6%, and for that kind of cat, it's 8%.
Basically, adult cats are fed 2-3 times a day. My cat is canned in the morning and eats raw meat at noon and evening. Every meal is 4-5 hours apart. Feeding less is easy to vomit, and feeding more is easy to have diarrhea.
How to be a flesh-and-blood person
First of all, prepare tools: kitchen scissors, a stainless steel basin, disposable plastic bags, electronic scales, measuring spoons (tea spoons), cutting boards, and a pair of rubber gloves (when loading meat).
Meat, heart and internal organs shall be prepared according to the original agreed proportion. I usually choose two kinds of meat (such as chestnuts: beef and chicken, and the heart may choose duck heart, chicken liver and chopped rabbit meat), so that all kinds of meat can be eaten, which is a little more delicious and not easy to get bored. First cut the meat into pieces (large pieces can exercise your chewing ability), then rinse the blood and throw it into a stainless steel basin. If the heart is too big, cut it in half, wash it and throw it in the basin. Cleaning the liver would be disgusting. Weigh it, throw it into a basin and cut it into small pieces with scissors. Try to make sure that there is liver in each sub-package. Then, if you also buy minced meat, cut a small mouth and squeeze it out like a shrimp in a hot pot. If the amount of each sub-package bag is similar, the weight can be calculated.
Ok, now that we have a pot of mixture of muscle and viscera, it's time to start adding egg yolks! Measure egg yolks twice a week. For example, if I want to cook cat food for 30 days, I will add 8 egg yolks. After adding eggs, you need to supplement nutrition now.
My nutritional products are all marked in Figure 7. Let me elaborate on the following:
Nutrition of raw meat and blood
1. calcium powder: used to supplement bone deficiency. This is very important. If 7% of the bones are not ingested, 2.5ml (i.e. 1/2 teaspoons) should be added for every 450g.
2. Taurine: used to supplement the underutilized heart. Although I fed my heart, I also added some accordingly, because it can supplement the cat's vision and increase immunity. Eat only one handful per meal. It's really a loss.
3. Potassium iodide: used to supplement cooked mackerel, mackerel, saury, etc. One tablet a week.
4.omega-3: Cooked mackerel, mackerel and saury are not enough. Take two capsules a week. (Fish must be fed 100g cooked fish a week! If not, supplement with potassium iodide and omega3)
5. Elm bark powder: conditioning the stomach. One handful a day, one throw, about 1/8 teaspoons.
6. Fish oil: I forgot to take a picture here, that is, the fish oil people in vb ve are eating the fish oil I bought from an Australian drugstore (that is, the capsule is punctured and squeezed out, one day 10000-20000 cents) and some nutrients I recently bought from China that I haven't fed: vitamin B (to supplement the unused duck liver yolk) and vitamin E (to supplement the daily needs). A lazy person like me, when making cat food, put all these nutrients in it, because you know it will take a few days, so just put it according to the amount. As for the amount of mg, it is actually 1-2 tablets. It doesn't matter if there is more, but it won't work if there is less. Because every element is necessary for cats.
Then mix everything in the basin in front of you. Then start bagging. After sealing, put it in the refrigerator and freeze it for more than 48h. Before each feeding, put it in the cold storage to thaw naturally or place it at room temperature. It can be eaten within 1-2 days after thawing. In fact, you can thaw the meat of lunch and dinner when you feed breakfast in the morning. Pay attention to feeding at room temperature, or you will have diarrhea.
Matters needing attention
Cats fed raw meat and blood may be infected with parasites, but as long as they persist in extinction, nothing will happen. Once a month in vitro and once every three months in vivo.
Raw meat and dry food cannot be fed together, which involves the transformation of plant protein and animal protein. If it is not properly modified, the cat will become a sprayer. It is recommended to feed raw meat and canned food, because there will be some trace elements that some nutrients can't supplement, so the nutrition is balanced. Suggestion: From dry food to raw meat, you should feed it for 3 days+pure cans, and from raw meat to dry food, you should feed it for 7 days+pure cans.
Well, that's basically it. The above experiences and purchases are based on Australia-Melbourne coordinates. If you have a city, you can buy nutrition on ebay and iherb websites. The problem of buying meat in China is not very big, but remember to buy reliable meat! Reliable meat! Reliable meat! It is the kind of meat that everyone can eat. All the meat I eat at home can be used to cook for myself. Nutrition products should be available in Taobao or Haitao pictures.
