Mayang Miao Autonomous County, referred to as Mayang for short, is located in the west of Hunan Province, in the north of Huaihua City, adjacent to Chenxi County in the east, Hecheng District and Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County in the south, Bijiang District in tongren city City, Guizhou Province in the west, Fenghuang County and Luxi County in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in the north, and belongs to Huaihua City, Hunan Province.

Mayang has a total area of 1568. 19 square kilometers, governs 10 townships, 8 towns, copper mine management offices, 20/kloc-0 administrative villages and 22 communities (in 2020), and has a total registered population of 3918.

Mayang enjoys many reputations, such as "City of Sugar and Orange in China", "Hometown of Modern Folk Painting in China" and "National Demonstration County of Citrus Organic Fertilizer Replacing Chemical Fertilizer".

Mayang is located between Wuling Mountain and Xuefeng Mountain, belonging to Ma Yuan Basin, with southwest-northeast trend. The terrain is higher in the south, west and north, lower in the middle, inclined to the east, slightly basket-shaped, with mountains, hills and valley plains. The territory is criss-crossed with mountains, rolling hills and criss-crossing valleys and plains.

Natural resources include water resources, mineral resources and forest resources. Among them, there are 7 proven underground mineral deposits, including copper, lead, zinc, hematite, kaolin, vanadium and geothermal, and there are 54 mineral deposits. The annual average temperature 19.5 degrees Celsius, the monthly average temperature 10 is 5.6 degrees Celsius, and the July average temperature is 28 degrees Celsius.
