Allicin can kill bacteria.
We know that garlic can play an antibacterial role because it contains allicin, especially for inhibiting and killing some pathogenic bacteria in intestinal tract and respiratory tract. At present, allicin has been made into a drug to treat clinical infections. It can also be used for deep fungal and bacterial infections, and can be used for preventing acute and chronic bacillary dysentery and enteritis, fungal infections in lung and digestive tract, candidiasis albicans, etc.
The antibacterial effect of allicin is a fact, but what about the antiviral effect?
Allicin is also antiviral. However, in the reports, most of them are drug-resistant enteroviruses, such as Coxsackie virus, which have obvious inhibitory effect, while there are few reports on anti-respiratory viruses.
In 2006, Dr. Yao discovered Yi's doctoral thesis in Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Studies have confirmed that allicin, Shuanghuanglian and Houttuynia cordata have obvious anti-mouse coronavirus MHV-3 effects, and their inhibitory effects are dose-dependent, which may involve virus adsorption, penetration and intracellular proliferation. Allicin is the highest in therapeutic index, followed by Houttuynia cordata Thunb, and the lowest in Shuanghuanglian. Preventive medication of allicin, Shuanghuanglian and Houttuynia cordata can obviously improve the prognosis of model mice and significantly prolong the survival time of model mice, suggesting that these drugs have certain preventive effects.
Dr Yao has something to say.
After all, there is no clinical trial data to prove its antiviral effect. People who usually like garlic can eat some, but don't expect it to resist novel coronavirus.
How to prevent it correctly? The mask should be protected. After all, effective physical isolation is the first magic weapon of prevention. 75% alcohol spraying, washing hands in the door and frequent ventilation are effective measures to reduce or block the spread between people.
