Wudang Taoism is a Taoist school characterized by "taking Wudang Mountain as the mountain, believing in the true martial arts-Xuanwu, attaching importance to the cultivation of inner alchemy, being good at thunder, symbols and images, emphasizing loyalty and filial piety ethics, and integrating the three religions".

Wudang Taoism refers to Taoism centered on Wudang Mountain in Hubei Province. Wudang Mountain, named after the worship of Zhenwu Emperor, is the place where Zhenwu Emperor practiced Taoism.

As early as the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, Jian Yao, the magistrate of Zhou Jun, built Wulong Temple on the mountain. Since then, all the temples in Wudang Mountain have been built. Wudang Taoism flourished in Ming Dynasty by worshiping Zhenwu, visiting Zhang Sanfeng and building Wudang Palace.

Wudang is also a secluded place for immortals of past dynasties, such as Lv Dongbin, Chen Tuan, Zhang Shouqing and Zhang Sanfeng. The schools circulating in Wudang are: Shangqing Maoshan School, in the 11th year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1 14 1), and Sun Laiwu, a Taoist of Maoshan in the Qing Dynasty, lived in Wudang, taught Shangqing Classics and initiated Wudang Wulong School. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, Qiu Xuanqing, a Taoist priest from Quanzhen Longmen, entered Wudang, where he learned from Mr. Sanfeng's way, passed on the family boxing method and attached importance to the cultivation of Inner alchemy, which was called Wudang Road in the world.

Although the orthodox school and Quanzhen school spread in Wudang have been handed down, they all serve the Zhenwu Emperor, thus forming a distinctive Wudang Taoism. Taoist schools related to Wudang Taoism are listed in the General Theory of Zhu Zhen Schools collected by Baiyunguan: Zhenwu Xuanwu School (Quanzhen School is Zhenwu School), Langmei School (Wutang School spread by Sun Biyun) and Sanfeng School spread by Mr. Sanfeng. Today, there are Dragon Sect, Wudang Xuanwu Sect and Justice Wei Qing Sect circulating in Wudang.
