The Yangtze River and the Yellow River carry a lot of sediment to form the abandoned Yellow River Delta. The northern coast of the reserve is eroded, and the siltation time in the central and southern parts is long. 900 hectares of land are deposited every year in the whole region. The beach is narrow in the north and wide in the south, with a width of 15km. The reserve is the main catchment area of Lixia River, and more than ten rivers flow through the reserve into the sea.
