Saliva: the source of life to maintain health (1)
The ancients believed that saliva is a very important natural substance to maintain the health of digestive tract, mouth and body, and it is a very valuable liquid nutrient in human body. As far as ancient Chinese characters are concerned, the word "live" comes from "tongue" and "water", that is to say, there is water beside the tongue to live. The water beside the tongue is saliva, which shows the importance of saliva to human life.

"Body fluid is born in the tongue, and swallowing the abdomen is common; There is no stagnation in the beauty of China, and a hundred days of qi can stay in the face. " This is an ancient song that summarizes the health of swallowing saliva. Among them, not only the realization method of pharyngeal saliva health preservation is briefly described, but also the health preservation effect of pharyngeal saliva health preservation is highly evaluated.

Saliva, commonly known as "saliva" and "saliva", is called "nectar", "Yuquan", "golden jade liquid", "dew" and "water of huachi" in ancient Chinese medicine books.

Modern research has found that saliva is a mixed liquid secreted by many salivary glands and other glands all over the oral mucosa. There are three pairs of large salivary glands in oral mucosa, namely parotid gland, submandibular gland and sublingual gland, and the smaller ones are labial gland, buccal gland and palatal gland. Although these salivary glands are small, they are very diligent organs. According to statistics, an adult can secrete at least1500ml of saliva all day long.

Saliva is 99% water, while others contain various components in plasma, such as amylase, lysozyme, mucin, amino acids, potassium, sodium, calcium and other substances.

The former refers to the stimulation of the color, smell and taste of food, as well as the direct contact with the oral mucosa of food, the movement of tongue and the chewing of teeth, so that salivary glands actively produce saliva; The latter situation refers to consciously taking drum washing, tongue top palate and other methods to promote salivary gland secretion of saliva. In the latter case, it is the method of keeping in good health of pharynx and saliva.

Neijing pointed out: "The five internal organs are five fluids, the heart is sweat, the lungs are tears, the liver is tears, the spleen is saliva, and the kidney is saliva, which is five fluids." Visible saliva is metaplasia of spleen and kidney.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that kidney is the source of innate vitality and spleen is the basis of acquired nutrition. Li Zhongzi, a medical scientist in the Ming Dynasty, clearly said: "Kidney is the foundation of congenital and spleen is the foundation of acquired." This shows the importance of kidney and spleen in human body. Saliva metaplasia of kidney and spleen is of great significance to health preservation.

Traditional Chinese medicine often judges the strength of physique and the nature of diseases according to the fluctuation of saliva secretion. A strong and disease-free population has plenty of water.

If the secretion of body fluid is insufficient, it will cause symptoms and manifestations such as dry throat, dry mouth, decreased digestive function, less sweating, no sweating, dry skin, loss of moisture on the face, dry tongue with red tongue, less moss, dizziness, tinnitus, constipation, etc. It is known as "litchi will die if the tongue is air-dried". As the medical book "Drinking Snow in a Red Furnace" in the Ming Dynasty said: "The body fluid is swallowed, the blood is turned into painstaking efforts, the eyesight is improved in the liver, the spirit is nourished in the spleen, the qi is stimulated in the lungs, and the essence is born in the kidney. All diseases are naturally smooth." It is clearly pointed out that all the five internal organs can benefit from the full secretion of body fluid.

If the movement of body fluid is disturbed, it will cause diseases such as edema and excessive phlegm. Kidney deficiency and spleen cold lead to more saliva, while kidney deficiency and spleen heat lead to less saliva. Excessive salivation in children and the elderly is the manifestation of deficiency of both spleen and kidney and qi deficiency, and the treatment should focus on invigorating spleen and kidney and promoting fluid production. Saliva is very important in the principle of treating diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. For example, the therapeutic principle of Treatise on Febrile Diseases can be summarized as "protecting stomach qi and preserving body fluid." In the treatment of febrile diseases, saliva pays more attention to "caring for body fluids" and thinks that "saving more body fluids will save more lives".

Therefore, Chinese health experts in past dynasties have attached great importance to the method of "swallowing saliva", which is also an important link in practicing Qigong, and it is called "returning the jade liquid to Dan". For example, Sun Simiao, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner in the Tang Dynasty, Huangfu Long in the Three Kingdoms Period, Kuaijing Taoist in the Han Dynasty, Liu Jing, a pharmacist in the Han Dynasty, and Wang Zhi, a health care doctor in the Jin Dynasty, all achieved longevity by insisting on swallowing saliva. For example, there is a story in "Prepare for 1000 yuan": Cao Cao asked Huang why he could live to be over 100 years old, and he was still strong and alert. Huang Huanglong replied: "Kuaijing is alive 1, 78 years old, still strong." The reason is that he is the result of' serving Yuquan to court', and so am I. "

The experience of these people in the past dynasties who used saliva to preserve their health and live a long life seems mysterious, but it is actually based on science. Now many studies have revealed the effects of pharynx and saliva on health, so it is worth learning for us to keep fit today.
