Luoyang, referred to as Luoyi and Luo Jing for short, is a prefecture-level city in Henan Province and a sub-central city of Central Plains urban agglomeration. The total area of Luoyang is 15230 square kilometers, of which the urban area is 2229 square kilometers. In the west of Henan Province, the east-west length is about 179 km, and the north-south width is about 168 km. It spans the north and south banks of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, bordering Zhengzhou in the east, Sanmenxia in the west, Jiaozuo in the north and Pingdingshan and Nanyang in the south.
Luoyang has a civilization history of more than 5,000 years, a city history of 4,000 years, and a capital construction of 1500 years. Luoyang is the eastern starting point of the Silk Road, one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization, and the center of the Sui and Tang Grand Canal. Thirteen dynasties established their capitals in Luoyang in history.
There are five capital sites in Luoyang: Erlitou Site, Yanshi Mall Site, Eastern Zhou Wangcheng Site, Han and Wei Luoyang City Site, Sui and Tang Luoyang City Site. As of March 20 19, there are three world cultural heritages in Luoyang: Longmen Grottoes, Han Han Gu Guan and Han Jia Cang.
