The extreme drought in Poyang Lake in 2022 is an extreme climate event under the background of global warming, and it is still dominated by dry and high pressure climate. Because tropical high-pressure tongs have controlled the Yangtze River basin for more than 40 days, there is a lack of cold air in the north and south, and the influence of offshore typhoons is limited, resulting in high temperature and less precipitation. From October to June in 2022, the rainfall in Poyang Lake Basin was 12 19mm, which was 7% higher than the average level in previous years, but the total rainfall in July and August was only 132mm, which was 54% less than that in previous years. At the same time, the high temperature caused the evaporation of Poyang Lake to be more than 70% higher than before this year, which led to the rapid decline of water level. The drinking water safety of 3.59 million urban residents and 440,000 rural residents along the lake has been affected to varying degrees, among which duchang county, Lushan City and Hukou County, which directly take water from Poyang Lake, involve more than one million people.
The drought in Poyang Lake not only seriously affected people's production and life, but also seriously damaged the ecological environment. With a high sense of responsibility, mission and urgency to the people and future generations, we will comprehensively monitor the negative impact of low water on water supply, water quality, wetlands, migratory birds and aquatic organisms.
Based on the current situation, with a long-term view, we should carefully analyze and study, promote the implementation of all powerful and effective measures as soon as possible, and do our utmost to alleviate the impact of drought on human production and life, water resources, water ecology and water environment. Minimize the impact of drought on human production and life, water resources, water ecology and water environment, and make Poyang Lake, an important wetland in the world and the largest freshwater lake in China, become a mother lake that will always benefit the people and protect the ecology.
