A guide to succulents in summer.
Summer is coming, what should I do if my stomach swells? Don't be afraid, when succulents spend the summer, it's like going back to the beginning, and everything has to start from scratch.

This year, the weather is a bit windy. In mid-May, it began to be over 30 degrees for half a month, even reaching the highest temperature last summer. Usually as long as it is sunny and above 30 degrees, the inside of the greenhouse will be between 35 degrees and 42 degrees, mostly above 40 degrees.

This environment is far from my own small terrace before, but I can still find some common points to follow. As long as I master these basic elements, it is actually very simple for succulents to escape the heat ~

1, good ventilation environment

In the past, ventilation was not paid much attention to, but now it seems more and more important, even the key to plant growth and survival. I have always felt that ventilation is like the water cycle in an ecosystem, and the fish in a stagnant pool are definitely not as healthy as those in living water. A good ventilation environment can inhibit the growth of germs, make water evaporate faster, lower the surface temperature, and feel comfortable even when there is mild and cool wind blowing, right? Summer meat must think so. So keep a small fan at home ~

Usually, I also pay great attention to observing and collecting information, and I feel that there are too many places to learn.

* Once encountered a rotten moonlit night, put it in the best ventilated shade. A week later, the decay stopped, the wound dried up and healed, and new buds grew.

* 32 degrees outdoor during the day, breeze, greenhouse 42 degrees; 34 degrees during the day, 4-5 winds, 38 degrees in the greenhouse.

This is all the function of ventilation. Of course, there is no need for ventilation in winter. Contrary to summer, it is necessary to avoid strong winds in winter and low temperatures in spring and autumn. Low temperature+wind = knife cutting.

Step 2: Appropriate shadows

There is no denying that in some areas, everything is so against the weather. I think apart from the climate and environment, the ultraviolet intensity in every region of China should be different ~ and even in the same region, the ultraviolet intensity will change when the weather changes suddenly. Make a term to explain full sunshine before you know the ultraviolet intensity. Many flower friends think that full sunshine means outdoor exposure all day. I think this term refers to sufficient sunshine, just the time of sunshine, not the intensity of ultraviolet rays. There are special instruments to detect the intensity of ultraviolet rays, but it is not necessary for everyone to buy such a professional instrument, including myself, and there is no real data detection at present. Just like when we apply sunscreen in summer, we feel that the sun is more intense when summer comes, so we consciously apply a protective layer. If you feel this way, you should also install a sunscreen Internet cafe for succulents at home. Common sunscreens have different densities. Please ask when you buy it. It is recommended to use 50% shading effect. If it is not enough, you can continue to pull another layer to facilitate adjustment.

* Don't worry about gaining weight for nothing because sunscreen blocks ultraviolet rays. As long as there is sufficient ventilation and long sunshine, it is beautiful! It would be a pity if the meat was more beautiful and complete in the sun. Once the leaves are sunburned, they can't recover, especially the middle leaves. Once injured, they can only wait for a new life quietly. Succulent plants can be beautiful in summer.

3. How to water in summer

Be sure to water at night, stop watering in case of continuous high temperature, and seize the opportunity to replenish water once the temperature drops, even if it is only for one day. Water cut is only applicable to some succulents, and it is not necessary to cut off water in most summer. In particular, some unhealthy plants need to be supplemented with nutrition to recover. The amount of watering is also a headache, and the amount of watering has a lot to do with flower devices. For example, red pottery, rattan and water moss are extremely breathable and can be watered in large quantities or even soaked in pots. However, the water volatilization speed of ceramic flower devices is extremely slow, so the watering interval will be lengthened, which can be 10 day, half a month or even 20 days. It depends on the size and depth of the flowers. Shallow flowerpots with larger caliber will evaporate water much faster, so that they can be watered thoroughly and frequently at one time.

* succulents are directly planted in seedling trays and placed on the ground inside the greenhouse, and the soil is completely dried in 2 days. Even if the temperature is 40 degrees during the day, water should be replenished at night. But there will be a lot of water vapor on the ground, and plants will not die if they are not watered for a long time. The water vapor on the ground can ensure that the meat can survive for a while. For the meat on the flower stand, the watering interval will be much longer, because I use a larger flower device, and now I water it once every 15-20 days. But in cool weather, a small amount of leaves will be sprayed at night.

* Because there is too much meat, there are often some that have no time to grow and are forgotten in a corner. After 2-3 months, I thought about it and found that it didn't die, and even grew new roots. But it doesn't mean all, some will die. However, if these unsweetened meats are placed in direct sunlight, they will definitely be sunburned after one month. Exposure will accelerate the consumption of water by plants. When there is no new water supplement, the state of plants will get worse and worse, and finally they will die.

4. Soil structure

Now I think soil is really important. Suitable soil can make the roots of meat grow faster, and only after the roots grow can they begin to absorb and provide nutrients to the main body of plants. In order to test the local formula and save the cost, the previous team adopted the configuration of weathered rock+peat soil 1: 1 dug back from the mountain. There is a small area of rot in summer, especially in the late stage of beheading, at least 20% of rot and death will occur. At the same time, however, the configuration of weathered rock and peat soil has hardly rotted. Therefore, it is suspected that peat soil is rich in germs, so now all the soil mixed with coconut bran+peat soil+perlite is used, and the effect is very good, and rotten soil is rarely found.

* In fact, different varieties of succulents have different requirements for soil. Relatively speaking, lotus root and Sedum alfredii have lower requirements on soil and prefer sandy soil. This requires trial and error. The formula of weathered rock 80%+ peat soil 20% used before is still very effective, and the root system either grows vigorously (old pile) or can't take root (seedling) because of too fast water loss. The most obvious is that the root powder scale insects are greatly reduced. It should be that the sandy soil environment is not suitable for insect reproduction, and it is better to choose a large proportion of sandy granular soil to strengthen the old pile. At present, a new formula soil has been changed, continue to test and see ~

There are some other places to pay attention to:

* The temperature near the ground will be much lower than that above the ground 1 meter. The inner surface temperature of the greenhouse is 35 degrees. After the height of the wooden frame is 80 cm and 40 degrees, the temperature at the non-direct sunlight position on the ground is lower.

* Spraying water at night in summer will obviously cool down, at the same time, it can also wash off the ash layer on the leaves and wash the meat regularly ~ They will be very happy.

* Varieties sensitive to high temperature in summer: variegated brocade, quiet night, Xiong Haizi, brilliant grass, evergreen grass (Guanyin lotus, purple peony, etc. ), in summer, due to excessive moisture, it is easy to rot, so try to choose shallow containers with large caliber and good water permeability. )。 Among them, the lotus palm is especially dormant in summer, but don't completely cut off the water ~ Common: black mage, mountain rose.

* Summer is also the season of scale insects. Don't be nervous when you find a bug. A small amount of bugs can be removed directly with tweezers, and then the leaves can be sprayed with clean water. When a large number of insects need to be used, they should be mixed in strict accordance with the instructions, sprayed in the place where there are insects, and placed in the weak sunlight, otherwise they will be easily burned.

* You can also raise a lot of succulents in summer ~ You can not only feed them, but also raise their colors and keep them healthy ~ You just need more attention and care than usual.

To sum up, in short, there are three main items:

1, reduce sunshine

2, proper watering

3. Indoor ventilation

1, reduce sunshine: in the southern region, the daily sunshine of meat 1 hour. If the temperature is too high, especially sultry, keep it directly in the shade! Autumn is coming, take it out to bask in the sun. It will be beautiful soon. Don't pursue appearance at this time ~ even the meat in the greenhouse will lose a lot every summer.

2. Proper watering: This mainly refers to flowerpots. I used red clay pots for a whole summer last summer, which was very breathable and the temperature in Weihai was suitable. Water them every five days to a week, and never cut off the water. There are hundreds of pieces of meat and a grain of rice ~ there are no pears at all ~ ho ~ ~

As for non-porous iron flowerpots such as ceramic flowerpots, we should pay attention to them. Once we water them too much, they will deposit on the bottom of the flowerpot. When the temperature rises, we will create a small sauna room for the roots of meat. Think for yourself, what will happen? Rotten roots start from here.

After summing up, I found a better watering method ~ it can be sprayed on the surface with a watering can at 8:00- 10 every night, or directly poured on fleshy leaves. It's time to cool down, because it's cool most of the time now, so don't be afraid that the sun will hurt the leaves when it shines on the water droplets during the day.

3. Indoor ventilation: For this, windy coastal cities are happy, just open a small window. There is no wind indoors in summer ~ ~ Buy a miniature electric fan ~ You don't need much electricity a day, and put it at a suitable distance to blow the wind on plants ~ ~ It can be alleviated to some extent ~
