Why say snow lotus, not other flowers?
This is a plot made up by Zeng Jiu in his novel The Past in Snowland. "Meat Lotus", also known as the Eighteen Rings of Lotus, was once popular in the sand area of Tujia Autonomous County along the Yangtze River in Guizhou Province. During the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, because of the war, people's lives were not good, and few people danced anymore.

Meat Lotus is the continuation and evolution of the military music and dance heritage of Tujia ancestors-Cubans, and it is a concentrated expression of Tujia traditional culture and personality characteristics. The dance is magnificent, loud in roar, intense and powerful in action, combining rigidity with softness, crackling with sound, and extremely ethnic, athletic and ornamental.

Meat Lotus was created by Yang, a folk artist in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty.

According to legend, Yang Yisheng loves singing and dancing. Every Spring Festival, he organizes lantern festivals and plays a major role himself. In my twilight years, I am still infatuated. This kind of dance is not limited by time, space and number of people. It is free and unrestrained, and you can dance with it after dinner and at work. It's a form of dancing for self-entertainment.

Meat Lotus has participated in the performances of the 5th, 6th and 7th National Traditional Sports Games and won the gold medal. Participated in large-scale cultural performances to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), which were filmed and broadcast by CCTV, Taiwan Province Lisan TV and other national 10 TV stations.
