Personality assessment

"Post-80s" New Forces (Gao Song)

The first time I saw Shen Dapeng's works, I was shocked by his "skill". His works are full of post-80s unique sense of pressure, loneliness and strangeness.

The "post-80 s" generation, their eyes are often full of vacant and helpless. Most of them are well educated, but only when they really get out of the ivory tower can they find their innocence. The distance between ideal and reality makes them face unprecedented social pressure. "House slaves" and "car slaves" seem to be synonymous with them. The post-80s generation is a lonely generation. They are the first generation of only children. Their three-shift parents left them with no playmates and had to face boring toys all day. This gradually formed that they are self-centered and do not know how to communicate with others, so there is no collective in their ideology, only individuals. The post-80s generation is also a weird generation. They admire loneliness, but they like fantasy. They advocate freedom, but they are full of rebellion.

Shen Dapeng vividly depicts the characters in the picture through superb skills. In Butterfly 1, the lonely teenager has wings symbolizing dreams on his thin body, but his eyes with glasses are full of horror. In Butterfly 2, a teenager living in a green room had a dream with an old sewing machine and an iron. The red flag flying on Monday was in sharp contrast to the man with the leather bag. The empty eyes of female students are obviously indifferent to the commercialized society. The unique sense of distance between the girl and her father in Father and Daughter. The weather-beaten families on the island. Shen Dapeng described the life of "post-80s" from his unique perspective.

Private Memories of Teenagers (Zhu Qi)

Shen Dapeng's paintings have new artistic features in the 1980s. His generation grew up in the social background of the rise of China, but his art profoundly depicts a kind of private memory of teenagers, from father, sister, fashion to surreal dreams.

The paintings of this generation may not be great, but they have returned to an absolute self-truth. Shen Dapeng's paintings are similar to a teenager's private notes. He only paints everything related to his personal memory, and his father, sister and himself have no other subjects.

What he painted the most was his father, a laborer in Northeast China, who sometimes looked like a laid-off worker, with a surprised expression on his face, his hair standing on end, his eyes staring so high that he was almost white. Sometimes it even looks like a strong and fat butcher, lying naked on an iron frame bed.

Shen Dapeng has created a new "father", who is no longer a collective father who represents many China people in the eyes of the previous generation, but just his own father. The personal image of "father" also made him choose a more detailed microscope painting method: surrealism. Every painting by Shen Dapeng is slow, because he wants to describe every detail of the body and even the skin, many of which are more detailed than photos, and even have details that photos don't have.

But he doesn't think he is drawing a picture. He thinks that the father in his painting has many deformations and even enlarges the imagination of skin spots, which is impossible for a photo. His realistic father image has the low-level characteristics of the decline of the socialist industrial era in Northeast China, which not only shows the reality of physical fatigue, but also is full of "body temperature" and even the state of the soul at the scene.

Interestingly, Shen Dapeng's "father" image does not point to a kind of social care and collective significance, but turns to an extremely private viewing. He painted a "self-portrait" and described himself as a little butcher, with a very dull and absurd youthful expression, but his self-characteristics are like many post-80s, showing a new temperament that life is much better than that of the previous generation. He also painted his sister, a cool girl older than he looks, dressed in sexy fashion, with fashionable smoking hands raised on her shoulders, and a blank expression on her face that she didn't know the sufferings of the world.

Father, sister and himself, Shen Dapeng completed the shaping of a family private pedigree. In a sense, the way of painting is like a means of image for Shen Dapeng. Through this meticulous description, a private video history has been created. The privatization of his image seems to be the inevitable result of his following the social changes of his generation and China. In his private memory, he no longer seems to dare to believe anything that has not been directly experienced, and even is not interested in anything beyond private experience, memory and imagination.

This has almost become an instinctive reaction in Shen Dapeng's paintings. His level of figure painting in one period sometimes varies greatly. If his father and sister are involved, his paintings are vivid and full of image power. If people outside his private circle are involved, this character is like a fashion shell without inner spirit.

His recent paintings have turned to some surreal and decorative imaginary images, such as a child holding a pair of apples, a baby in a thorn, or a cartoon child holding a big fish. It seems that in the field of self-imagination, he doesn't want to go beyond the boundaries of his own experience and be confined to the private memories of teenagers. Regarding propaganda, history, ideology and impersonal fields, Shen Dapeng feels that the private field is the freest, safest and most reliable. So surrealism has become the best way to amplify this private bet.

In fact, the privatization of Shen Dapeng's image is not only his own trend, but also that of a group of peers. From the "individuality" that the previous generation struggled for nearly 20 years to the "privatization" of Shen Dapeng's generation, how to define the significance of this positioning? Perhaps "privatization" itself is a kind of meaning, and he doesn't need to refer to anything, which makes Shen Dapeng's artistic expression more delicate in humanity and language than the previous generation, but the pattern of the picture is greatly reduced, and even only the private memory of teenagers. But in a rapidly changing era, what else can make the younger generation feel more reliable!

Fable Scenery (Wei Xing)

Shen Dapeng's works pay more attention to the artist's own inner psychological activities, and his works express familiar people and things with extremely delicate and highly realistic methods. But they are not realistic, but have a surreal style, which perfectly combines popular comic style with surreal skills, thus forming his own personal style. Watching his works is like exploring the artist's inner dream and emotional world, and traveling in an imaginative space with rich colors and forms.

"Unfinished Oil Painting" Introduction of China Contemporary Young Oil Painters (Liang Jian)

Shen Dapeng's works reflect the things he felt in his dreams in a realistic way, such as sewing machines, apples and flowers. Every detail is convincing and true. But through the conscious combination of artists, it seems like a fantasy to Kafka. The dream constructed by the painter is strong and powerful, thus breaking away from the definition of ethereal.
