Questions and answers about correcting body shape
A yogi asked me: the previous injury caused imbalance between left and right, which brought her a lot of troubles, including pain and physical dysfunction, and asked me if I could repair it. I got a general understanding of her situation and answered her: physical correction is definitely possible. Since the body can be bad, it can certainly be good. But there are two decisive factors that must be considered in advance: 1. Whether a person's will (determination) is enough, with enough will, he can overcome all kinds of difficulties in the training process, including his own inertia; 2. We should know that revision is a long-term process, and we should not rush into it, because it is not easy to change one's inherent habits.

Then I discussed with her the imbalance of the body and the following phenomena, which originated from the spine. The spine is like a pillar of a house, and the periphery of the body is like a wall. When this pillar of the body is broken or deformed, which is not enough to support the body, the pressure is transferred to the wall, and various problems of the body appear. She agreed with my metaphor very much, and then mentioned the foundation of her feet. It seems that she knows something about anatomy. I went on to say: You are right, feet are the foundation of the body. If the foundation is not firm, something will definitely happen. The soles of the feet and ankles are the foundation of the legs, and the pelvis is the beam. Both legs and pelvis form the foundation of your spine, so the repair should start from the foundation (that is, the soles of the feet to the legs and then to the pelvis). This is the common sense of structural science, and I believe everyone has knowledge.

It must be said that the research of modern medicine is very limited. Modern medicine (anatomy) only knows tangible bodies, such as muscles, bones and fascia. But these are all controlled by nerves, motor nerves control how the body moves, and sensory nerves are responsible for feeding back the information (feeling) of limbs. Moreover, the nervous system is the supreme commander of the eight systems, including the secretion of glands. But the research of modern medicine (anatomy) only ends here. Who is the leader behind the nervous system? I don't know.

Ancient yogis learned through practice that behind the visible thick body layer is a more subtle gas layer (or energy body). Swami Rama pointed out that there are 72,000 qi veins in the human body, with the veins of the nervous system in bold, the middle vein corresponding to the brain and spinal cord, and the left and right veins corresponding to the spinal nerves on both sides. In other words, the nervous system is dominated by more subtle energy. Because the energy is too subtle for modern scientific instruments to detect, but the ancient monks in the East learned it earlier and sorted out a set of scientific systems, such as Indian yoga, China Tai Chi and Chinese medicine. In fact, careful friends will also find that lying in bed for a period of time will turn over, because energy has its own channel. When it is blocked in one posture, it must guide you to change to another posture, so that it can pass and be comfortable. For example, if we are in a very small space, even if this space does not touch your body, you will feel depressed, indicating that there is an "invisible, invisible" gas layer, and it occupies more space than the rough body layer, and the gas field that people often say is also related to this. So who is dominant behind the gas layer? It's the body layer

Psychosomatic layer is the level of mind, including conscious mind and subconscious mind, including all the marks and desires of the past, which will produce all kinds of thoughts and emotions in a certain scene. These will interfere with the operation of energy, and then dominate the movements of limbs through energy. For example, when we are angry, our aura, words and deeds are definitely different from those when we are calm. For another example, many friends often have stiff and nervous shoulders, and careful people will find that it is often accompanied by overthinking and brain tension. At this time, the first thing to do is to let go and relax the training. The heart will naturally relax and the shoulders will soften. If we don't understand the relationship between the two, blindly pulling the ligament will often cause a ligament strain, and the problem has not been solved.

Of course, more subtle than the spiritual layer is the intellectual body layer, and then the musical body layer. Passing through the physical layer of music is the center of consciousness-ID, which will not be discussed here.

It can be seen that the shallowest bold layer is controlled by the finer gas layer, while the gas layer is controlled by the finer mental body layer, and to improve these body layers, it is obviously necessary to go deeper. It shows that even if the body is corrected, it is not a permanent cure to talk about correction only from the physical level. In reality, there are many cases in this regard. For example, although some people temporarily corrected their spine, they changed back after a period of time because they continued their original habits, and even became more serious.

It can be seen that to cure the problem, we must go deep and get close to the inner teacher, so that the inner teacher can help you see clearly the relationship between body, energy and mind and coordinate them. Then how to do it? To sum up, our training is carried out around the eight limbs described in the Yoga Sutra, and all the training ultimately points to meditation. Eight limbs: observing precepts, mindfulness, meditation, pranayama, introspection, concentration, meditation and samadhi. These eight limbs should be practiced in order, and the first two limbs are the foundation. On this basis, we can train around the sitting method, and then go to subtle levels, such as pranayama, introspection and spiritual level. As far as the single sitting method is concerned, diaphragm breathing should be established first, and then posture method (from joint and gland movement to posture training) should be entered on the basis of diaphragm breathing. In our posture practice, we should do the movements of meaning, qi and shape, and pay attention to drawing air with meaning and guiding shape with qi (in fact, Tai Chi is the same). In fact, the purpose of posture training is to train the mind through the body. Only by absorbing the mind can we correct the body from the root, which also shows that the body and mind are one.

As can be seen from the above introduction, our training system is different from most yoga studios. I call this system "looking inward" or "inner self". Looking inward, we must first help practitioners learn to close their external eyes and open their internal eyes. Some people will ask, stew meat with your eyes closed, which is easy to have delusions. Isn't this the more you practice, the more you deviate from the truth That's because your inner eyes have been closed for too long, so you need training more. You have to grow up internally, just like a toddler, and you can't stop him from exploring for fear of falling. The key is how to guide him.

The training of looking inward is not so wonderful, and sometimes it even makes people feel boring and difficult. For example, seemingly simple movements are difficult for you to do because many parts of your body are asleep. So follow the second order and don't rush to correct your body. We must do a series of exercises before fitness, which can only be done when the temperature comes up.

According to the previous teaching, the technical problems are relatively easy to solve. As long as students enter our classroom, they will improve more or less. But after leaving for a period of time, he (she) changed back to his original style, because his (her) inherent habits made him (her) change back. Changing a person's mind is a long-term process, so let's go back to the previous two points: have enough will and patience. For most people, the solution is to arrange a certain time to return to the furnace for training every year.

Finally, I want to send a message to my friend: the road to look inward seems boring, but when you really walk in, you will find that the inner world is more colorful than the outside world. If this article inspires you, or you have different opinions, please leave a message and discuss with us.
