Yu: You wrote the trilogy of life code. The third book "The Code of Life" has just been published. Past Life has made a detailed interpretation of the principles, viruses and bacteria of major plagues and diseases faced by mankind. Why write three books "The Code of Life" in a row?
Yin Ye: The subtitle of Life Code 1 is Your First Life Science Book. Life Password 2 is divided into four topics based on Life Password 1.
In the past two years, I fought against the COVID-19 epidemic with my friends in Huada, so the subtitle of Life Code 3 is Plague Biography, and I recorded the plague that 12 affected human history.
I think humans are too arrogant. Although our understanding of infectious diseases is getting more and more accurate, now we can clearly see viruses and bacteria, but the universal characteristic of human beings is that when he holds a hammer in his hand, he regards everything as a nail.
So in the late 1940s, when humans mastered antibiotics, they suddenly felt that we had no fear of infection. We became the "King of the Earth".
After a while, I found that the "king of the earth" is actually a microorganism, because microorganisms have existed on the earth for billions of years. Since the agricultural society, humans have ruled the earth for only 1 10,000 years. In this process, microorganisms have tried various methods that humans can make.
But as Mark Twain said, "We always step on the same rhythm, the mistakes made by our predecessors, and then we continue to make mistakes and become arrogant." I wrote this book "Life Code 3: Biography of Plague" because I experienced SARS and COVID-19 personally.
I see, in fact, we humans should have awe and get along better with all beings on earth, especially microorganisms.
Otherwise, mankind has no future. Take "tuberculosis" as an example. Now there is multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, and its impact is much more serious than coronavirus in the long run. But not many of us are aware of these problems now, and our attention may be focused on COVID-19. But in fact, we should be alert to microorganisms, and at the same time "have a good relationship" with microorganisms.
Y: Because microorganisms are also evolving, do you think that when human beings face the future, no matter how advanced our technology and biology are, human beings will be tested by such microorganisms, big or small, every few years?
Yin Ye: Yes, and at present, the frequency will become more and more dense and intense. Our current population density, including the means of transportation we use now, is getting closer and closer between people.
Each of us is covered or carried with various microorganisms. In this sense, you can't escape microorganisms, so try to get along well. This is a more reasonable way to share the blue planet.
Yu: When we were young, we often heard the phrase "It's okay to eat dirty". Is it reasonable?
Yin Ye: There is a "public health hypothesis", which means that many diseases are caused by being too clean. For example, there are many diseases in the United States, including polio. In fact, it is because it is too clean to contact these microorganisms and produce immunity. Later, the virus came, causing irreversible, serious and even permanent damage.
Bacteria in people's stomachs are our good partners, but if you don't treat them well, they will find you trouble. Either constipation, chronic diarrhea, or even stress will lead to poor sleep. In fact, supplementing probiotics now can make your intestinal flora more harmonious.
In other words, the more you care about your flora, the better your state will be. Most of the food we eat is not for ourselves, but for the flora in our stomachs. There are many media to induce your probiotics.
Yu: Please tell me the difference between the three books "The Code of Life".
Yin Ye: Life code 1 is more like an introductory gene book, which contains animals, plants and diseases, so life code 1 is more suitable for beginners of life science. Children with a literacy of about 3000 words can read.
Password for Life 2 enriches some contents that everyone is willing to listen to in Password for Life 1, focusing more on several topics. In fact, the original Life Code 3 wanted to continue writing like this, but just as I started writing, the COVID-19 epidemic came.
So I directly wrote "Life Code 3" as a biography of plague, and read all the plagues and infectious diseases that human beings should pay most attention to in one book.
Y: You said that emotions can change genes, so be happy and stay away from scum and shit. So how do we keep a good mood? How to adjust the body to a good state?
Yin Ye: Actually, the best way to improve immunity is not to eat health care products, just three things. The first is to have a good sleep, the second is to exercise properly, and the last is to stay happy. Keep yourself in a good positive state all the time.
These things sound simple, but in fact they are still very difficult. For example, sleep regularly, such as developing the habit of exercise. Sometimes you don't want to exercise, just when you need to exercise, people have to fight their laziness.
The last one is to keep a positive attitude even if you encounter any problems. People must face the right things. People's mood can also affect people's genetic changes, even instantaneously.
I generally don't recommend watching horror movies, because most people leave traces. What you pursue is short-term stimulation, but it will bring you long-term subconscious distraction. People should still live in a relatively peaceful world.
Yu: When everyone is under great pressure, there are few opportunities to create a happy mood or release their pressure. Faced with such a state, what kind of advice do you give to everyone from the perspective of regulating people's physical condition?
Yin Ye: First of all, I want to say that people are gregarious animals. Except some philosophers and scientists, they may need to find this peace in natural science or in their own flow, and they can live in isolation. Most people need someone to enlighten them.
If you really want to live alone, please bring a pet. I talked about pro-life, and I hope to have a life to reflect that my life is also beautiful. I also feel the beauty of life in the process of taking care of others.
I suggest that everyone should still live in a big family. Even though everyone may not be together, they can still get comfort through space communication. At the same time, even in difficult times, we should still have hope.
In fact, many people are not afraid of death, but of living. Later, I thought, on the one hand, we should always be close to positive energy, on the other hand, we should find something ambitious for ourselves, such as reading.
In fact, people should not be bound. Even if we don't know whether there is a sense of freedom at this moment, we are absolutely free to deny it. In other words, you may not have the right of affirmation, but you must have the right of negation.
We should make good use of our wisdom as the highest species of primates. We should make good use of it, instead of feeling that we are living in an unsatisfactory world and contacting more people and things with positive energy.
Yu: It is especially important for people to be passionate about life. It can resist your 100 or 1000 negative emotions, because as long as you still have ideas about the future, as long as you still have enthusiasm for what you are doing, as long as you still have confidence or trust in the people around you, I think no matter how hard life is, you can survive.
When I was studying, I actually felt that I was already communicating with people. Although the book is not alive, it is actually talking to you. You are also thinking, talking to it, and you can quote whether it is right or not.
If I don't know what I am reading, I will feel like a tutor giving me a lecture. When my brain is connected with other people's brains, I will feel a kind of happiness.
Reading this thing has a healthy and positive influence on one's mind. But now many people connect with the world in a virtual way, such as watching short videos, communicating through online dating or virtual communities, and even I find that many people's state in the virtual world is opposite to their real life state.
For example, a very timid person dares to make all kinds of bold and even abusive remarks on the Internet. This kind of communication is of course a kind of communication, but I always feel that this kind of communication in the virtual world is not good for mental health for a long time.
I just want to ask you, from the perspective of biology and life science, the future hyperuniverse has begun to appear, and people seem to be more and more involved in the future virtual world, and gradually divorced from the real world. In this case, how do you think people should get along?
Yin Ye: Now everyone is connected with a larger circle, but in fact, according to the "Dunbar number" rule, the limit of stable social interaction in a person's life is about 150 people. There are probably less than ten people connected in the workplace, and the average efficient manager connects almost seven people.
In this process, how to improve the emotional ability of the real world in the virtual world? We will look for the state of flow in the book. From a biological point of view, it connects some neurons that we were not good at before, produces some new synapses, and lets us know the content of a new field.
What Archimedes said when he learned the law of buoyancy in the bathtub was called "Eureka", but it was actually "I know". In fact, when we read a lot of books, we also pat our thighs. That's what happened!
In fact, we really don't have to interact with the real world to improve our emotional ability. Technology will always improve. Compared with 30 years ago, our technology today is obviously unimaginable, but I firmly believe that if people watch our live connection 20 years later, they will definitely feel old-fashioned.
Maybe everyone has been connected by shaking hands and dancing in the virtual world. What I want to say is that in fact, you must use a lot of humanities to irrigate natural science, because humanities without technology may be ignorant.
But technology without humanity must be dangerous, because when that day comes, we will not meet and stab each other, but shake hands and spread positive energy together. I think the more difficult it is, the more hope should be given to everyone.
Y: You are actually a particularly positive and optimistic person. You are still trying to spread some popular science of life science with your own attitude. What I want to ask you is, how can you keep such a positive and optimistic attitude on yourself?
I believe that you will encounter all kinds of distress in your life, or you will be confused and lost. How do you adjust yourself? Because I think you should learn from this state.
Yin Ye: Teacher Yu, in fact, I really adjust myself by reading books. I am very happy. I read books, and I feel sad. I also read books, but I will choose different books at different times, make a cup of tea, light a stick of incense and drink a cup of tea. If I have three or four hours to read three or five books, it will be a very happy moment for me, no matter what the content of that writing is, I can find a lot from it.
In fact, you know that rationality is the ultimate sensibility, that is to say, if you do what you want to do most in your heart to the extreme, it will become rationality.
So again, as long as there is a shadow in front, I know I have a shadow, because there is light behind, so I will definitely see the light in the opposite direction. Since I can't handle this matter today, I can't handle this customer.
I may have been scolded by my boss, or I may have made people around me sad, or I may have stood up for something very important, but he can't stop me from pursuing the freedom of happiness.
When I encounter such troubles and uncontrollable things, I also know that when I can't solve them temporarily, I can only calm down by reading, otherwise, I can't completely calm down.
Besides, I don't think knowledge is a liberal arts. We haven't exchanged books, but our habits are highly similar, which is called convergent evolution in biology, which means that we all help ourselves to evolve in the same way.
For example, ancient prose, for me, in fact, the most important cultural self-confidence of a nation is the love of its own language. No matter how good our English is, the premise is that your mother tongue must be worthy.
In fact, I read more professional books before I was 38, but after I was 38, I did read more philosophy books and literature books in recent years. Because I feel that when I read these books of sages, I can give myself something to think about today's life science, which gives me a lot of feelings and touches.
Yu: Does this mean that your thinking height or thinking mode has cut into another level, because generally speaking, reading this matter is very interesting. For example, if doctors insist on reading only professional books, it seems that the depth and breadth that they can finally dig professionally are limited.
In other words, after reaching a certain professional level, as you just said, when you review your major from a philosophical and historical perspective, you can gain some new insights and feelings. In a sense, your life realm or your outlook on life has entered another level.
I want to ask you, that is to say, because some physicists, including Newton, did a very good job, it seems that they all started to study religion at last. I seem to hear that Teacher Yang Zhenning also began to study religion in the previous stage. Does this represent a concern for the ultimate fate of people?
Yin Ye: Yes, in fact, we are all the same, that is, the bigger the circle you know, the more you know. On the other hand, the more you know, so reading won't make us omnipotent.
The only function of reading is to make me not afraid of the unknown, but when faced with the unknown, you will have the ability to make up for your unknown. I have read many books. Finally, there is a book called Biography of the Brain, which has just been published. I just finished reading a key sentence written in it, which is "I know nothing about the brain". You can't just read professional books. You really look like a bookshelf.
Logically or mathematically, we have a very important word called orthogonal information. The more orthogonal the information, the stronger our certainty about that thing, because it is determined again. So sometimes we try a new field, just to make our three views more certain.
This certainty itself does not mean that we can do anything. On the other hand, I admit that I am small, and I admit that I want to get an equality with all beings to solve my life's confusion.
In this sense, we humans are religious, not religious, but religious, that is to say, we believe that it is certain to raise our heads three feet regularly. Because we can't study any more, whether Einstein or Newton or Yang Zhenning, we are all the same.
No matter how smart a person is, what he doesn't know is beyond the line, so you will understand in this process. The more you know, the more you bite back.
then what We may have to renegotiate with ourselves. Well, we may not need to know everything, but as long as I get close to an inch, I will have a surprise of nearly an inch. I've said too much, so I'll talk more about this confidence. In this process, you will become self-comparison, and I will only compare myself with yesterday. This is a very self-consistent state.
