American researchers recently found that eating broccoli and tomatoes together is suitable for preventing prostate cancer, and the "unity" of these two vegetables is particularly remarkable. The research results will be published in the Journal of Nutrition from June 5th to February this year.
Scientists agree that the efficacy of tomatoes in preventing prostate cancer mainly comes from lycopene, which makes tomatoes appear red, while the anticancer ability of broccoli mainly comes from its glucosinolates.
Researchers at the University of Illinois in the United States injected human prostate tumor cells into experimental mice to make prostate tumors grow in experimental mice. Then the experimental rats were divided into four groups, which were fed with a single tomato dry powder, a single broccoli dry powder, a mixture of the two and a drug "Roupei" (trade name) which can inhibit the growth of benign prostate tumors. The results showed that tumor cells all grew in the experimental mice, but the tumor growth rate and tumor volume of the three groups of experimental mice eating vegetables were lower than those of the group eating "meat". Among them, a group of experimental mice that ate the mixture of two vegetables had the smallest tumor volume.
At the press conference organized by the American Association for Cancer Research, researchers said that tomatoes and broccoli each have excellent anti-cancer effects, but their research proved that "unity is strong".
