In the advertising dictionary published by "International Textbook Publishing Company" in London, posters refer to printed advertisements posted on cardboard, walls, large wooden boards or vehicles, or displayed in other ways. It is the main form of outdoor advertising and one of the oldest forms of advertising. Some people interpret the meaning of posters according to their root structure and anecdotes, and think that posters are converted from "posts", which means posts, so posters refer to all notices posted on posts.
function
With the media becoming more and more diversified, the position of posters as the chief publicity efficiency has been taken away. However, with the appearance of electronic plate-making after 1980s, poster designers attracted cutting-edge technology and created more striking expression language than before. Posters have many advantages that cannot be replaced by other media. Almost all famous visual design colleges in the world regard poster design as the most important learning content of visual design.
This is because posters have most of the basic elements of visual design, and their design techniques are more extensive and comprehensive than other media, which is more suitable for basic learning. At the same time, it is most likely to impress students in the infectious effect of visual communication. After students have the foundation of poster design, it is relatively easier and more efficient to learn other media design.
It is precisely because posters have unique artistic effects and aesthetic conditions that most representative advertising designers in advertising history are famous for their outstanding performance in poster design. In this sense, studying poster design is the only way for advertising designers to succeed.
As a visual communication art, poster can best reflect the formal characteristics of graphic design. It has the most important basic elements of visual design, and its design concept, expression means and techniques are more typical than other advertising media.
The establishment of authoritative design institutions in the world, the continuous holding of international poster exhibitions, and the publication of related poster design monographs and poster yearbooks have strongly promoted the development of modern posters to a higher level, making them still in the main position of visual expression.
Important international poster exhibitions include: Warsaw International Poster Design Art Biennale, Brno International Graphic Design Art Biennale, Colorado International Advertising Poster Invitation Biennale, Mexican International Advertising Design Art Biennale, Moscow International Advertising Design Biennale, Lahti International Advertising Design Art Biennale, Fuji International Poster Biennale, Bolivian International Poster Biennale, etc.
