Speaking of suspension, I know Renault R26.

Renault R26, not only the front suspension is equipped with mass shock absorber, but also the rear suspension uses this system, but the rear is only introduced this season. Gary Anderson, a former engineer of Jordan Team, thinks that the use of quality shock absorbers at the rear is not as critical as the front suspension, because the spring at the rear is much softer than the front, so it is not helpful to improve the lap speed. But then again, in F 1,100 seconds is valuable, so as long as the technology is feasible, there is no reason to refuse, right?

This year, after the F 1 car was converted into a V8 engine, its size was shortened by about 10 cm, so a part of space was made between the gearbox and the engine, which provided conditions for introducing a mass damper at the rear. As shown in the figure below, the installation method of the rear mass damper is exactly the same as before. It is vertically located in the front of the gearbox, with springs at the upper and lower ends and a balance mass in the middle.

Among the seven active engine suppliers, Renault took the lead in introducing V 10 into F 1 (the picture shows the product synthesis diagram of seven manufacturers [not the latest model]).

According to the FIA's new rules, in order to save money, a 2.4-liter V8 engine will be used from next year, which means that the V 10 engine that has been roaring for decades in the F 1 0 championship will become history. V 10, which was once regarded as the most perfect engine scheme by F 1 technicians, pushed the technical confrontation of F 1 to an unprecedented height; Now its withdrawal will herald the end of an era of F 1 engine technology.

Engine, engine, engine.

As the core, the most expensive, the most confidential and the most complicated part of F 1 racing car, the current 3.0-liter V 10 engine has completely surpassed any previous "heart". In terms of power, torque, torque, limit speed, explosive power, power-to-weight ratio, combustion efficiency, reliability and ride comfort, the "predecessors" are left behind. It is no exaggeration to say that it represents the highest level of human internal combustion engine technology today!

Unfortunately, the glory of V 10 engine will soon become history, and V8 will take over his throne next year.

The entry of V 10 into F 1 is not synchronous, because V 10 and V 12 were developed in parallel for a period of time in F 1, that is to say, when some teams were equipped with V 10 engines, other teams continued to use V/KLOC. For example, in 1995, when Ferrari was still using 1950, it began to enter the V 12 of the F 1 racing arena (of course, the technologies of the two V 12 are different), the first 75-degree V1of Mercedes-Benz.

The first V 10 engine provided by Renault for F 1 was 1989 Renault RS0 1 (they used 1.5 liter V6 before). At that time, the 3.5-liter engine with an included angle of 65 degrees was able to output 650 horsepower at peak power, and the highest speed could reach 14300 rpm. Like Renault, Honda, which entered the F 1 in 1963, also launched its first V 10 engine in the same year, with an included angle of 72 degrees, which is the same as the RS25 currently used by Renault. Honda's peak engine speed (13000rpm) is not as high as RS0 1, but its power reaches 670 HP.

BMW's first V 10 engine was named E4 1-4, which was born in 2000. It is the latest manufacturer among seven engine suppliers (Ferrari, Renault, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Honda, Cosworth and Toyota) except Toyota to introduce the V 10 heart into the F 1 arena. But as we all know, BMW's predecessor was Bavarian Engine Company, and their attainments in engines are by no means inferior to any rivals. The debut E4 1-4 surpassed most contemporaries as soon as it was born. With the development of technology and the accumulation of experience, BMW finally built one of the most powerful engines in the F 1 competition with its strong technical strength, and was recognized as the king of power together with Honda's RA005 E.

Although Ferrari V 10 engine started late, it does not mean that they are backward in technology. The stadium is the standard to test the strength, and Ferrari's record since 1996 is enough to show that their engine technology is not inferior to any opponent. This is also the main reason why we didn't choose the most wonderful BMW and Honda when analyzing the development of V 10 engine!

According to Paolo Martinelli, the engine manager of Ferrari, the best structural form of a large-displacement high-speed engine is V 12, not V 10, which is the real reason why Ferrari did not adopt V 10 engine in the "3.5-liter era".

1995, in order to reduce the power output of the F 1 engine and improve the safety of the race, the FIA reduced the displacement to 3.0 liters. This seemingly subtle reform declared the death of V 12, because the complicated V 12 was no longer suitable for such a small displacement engine, so Mercedes-Benz immediately reduced the engine by two cylinders. However, for safety, Ferrari avoids technical backwardness (similar to the use of F2004M this year); Under the requirement of 3.0 liters displacement, V 12 was used for another year, and it was Ferrari Tipo 044/ 1. The technical change made by the engineer was to reduce the diameter of the cylinder, and the included angle was increased from 65 degrees to 75 degrees, but the power was lost by 25 horses.

The following year, Ferrari's first V 10 was finally born. Like the F 1 engine still used in the family, this heart also has its own unique number-Ferrari Tipo 046. Here, "46" means that it is the 46th F 1 heart in Ferrari history. 046 is equipped with Ferrari F3 10, making the latter the first F 1 car with a V 10 heart in Ferrari history. That's right: F3 10 won three sub-station championships for Ferrari and won the title of runner-up of the annual team.

Because it is the first year to contact the high-speed V 10 engine, it is still in the stage of technical exploration. At that time, the engine was not 90 degrees, but 75 degrees, which was exactly the same as F0 1 10 introduced by Mercedes-Benz the year before last. As the engine is the most hidden competition event of F 1, the outside world can't get the most exact technical parameters. According to the records of that year, the conservative estimate is 600 horses, while according to the spy news, there are 750 horses.

Judging from the research and development of Ferrari V 10 engine, they have taken many detours less than their rivals. Ferrari was the first engine supplier to find the best angle of 90 degrees, and later its strength improved even faster.

1997, Ferrari did not develop a new replacement model of F3 10, but used an improved version of F310b. The matching engine is also improved 046/1b. Technically, 046/ 1b is almost the same as the previous model, and still adopts single overhead camshaft structure, with the same power but improved reliability. F3 10B won five sub-station titles for Ferrari that year and won the title of runner-up of the year again.

Since 1998, the development of Ferrari V 10 engine has been accelerated. First of all, the included angle of the cylinder is changed to 80 degrees (gradually approaching 90 degrees), thus improving the power output and reducing the weight. The 047 used in that year was greatly slimmed down on the basis of the original 125 kg, and the power was increased by 5 horsepower. The following year, Ferrari introduced the double overhead camshaft technology, which greatly improved the ignition accuracy and gas distribution combustion efficiency of the engine, and the power output curve was more reasonable. On the other hand, by using a lot of light metal to reduce the weight to 1 12 kg, the engine is more compact, but the reliability is not affected at all. The heart code-named 048 has reached 780 horsepower. He won the annual championship title for Ferrari that year, which was his first heart to win this honor for Ferrari.

Since 2000, Ferrari's V 10 engine has entered the "90-degree angle era", which is also the general trend of the development of 3.0-liter V 10 engine. In the next few years, Ferrari will focus on: increasing output power+reducing engine quality. 200 1 engine power code 050 broke through 800 horsepower for the first time, reaching 840 horsepower. And the mass exceeded the lower limit 100 kg for the first time, weighing only 94KG.

The following year, through the expansion and application of new materials and technologies, the quality was reduced by 2 kg again. However, as the piston moves faster, the power continues to climb upwards. The 052 equipped with F2003-GA has reached a new height in two most important indexes: the peak power is 900 HP and the limit speed is 19000 rpm. One year later, while the loading speed was "high", the power was increased 15, and the Ferrari V 10 engine reached its peak.
