Hongshan is located in the center of Urumqi, where rocks are abrupt. Whenever the dawn is slightly exposed, the rock wall reflects sunlight and the red light shines, hence the name. The mountain trend is east-west, and the elevation of the main peak is 139 1 m. Because the mountain is like a tiger and the steep rocks are red, it is also called "Hutou Mountain" and "Hongshanzui".
