Understand the battle of postpartum fat reduction of body fat
Text/Zeng Yongqi

Doctors found that obesity is closely related to the occurrence of cancer, so losing weight is not only for beauty, but also for health. The first thing for postpartum mothers to lose weight is to lose fat. Before fighting fat, you need to know the inner fat, so that you can win every battle!

Dr. Yan Ronglang, who received a doctorate in tumor biology from Anderson Cancer Center in the United States, once held a pot in the Department of Radiation Oncology of Chang Gung Hospital after returning to China. He has long studied the mechanism of cancer. He pointed out that obesity is closely related to the occurrence of cancer. Therefore, if postpartum mothers want to lose weight, the first thing is to lose fat, which is not only for beauty, but also to reduce the risk of cancer in the future.

The definition of obesity

Dr. Yan Ronglang said that body mass index (BMI) is a common tool to evaluate obesity. The calculation method is as follows:

Body mass index = weight (kg)/height 2 (m)

The ideal body mass index of adults in Taiwan Province province is 18.5 ≦ body mass index < 24; When the body mass index ≧24 indicates overweight, ≧27 indicates obesity. But it should be judged by the proportion of body fat in body composition (body fat rate). For example, athletes or people who exercise for a long time have a high proportion of body components from muscles, so although the body mass index value may exceed 30, there is no need to lose weight if the body fat ratio is very low.

Body fat rate

There are several ways to estimate body fat percentage. In addition to measuring with a body fat meter, it can also be estimated by measuring waist circumference:

Male body fat percentage deduction algorithm;

Parameter a = waist circumference (cm)x 0.74;; ; Parameter b = (weight ∕ kg x 0.082)+44.74; ;

Total body fat weight = a–b, body fat rate = (total body fat weight ÷ body weight) x 100%.

Calculation method of female body fat rate;

Parameter a= waist circumference (cm)x 0.74;; ; Parameter b= (weight ∕ kg x 0.082)+34.89; ;

Total body fat weight = a–b, body fat rate = (total body fat weight ÷ body weight) x 100%.

The normal body fat rate is about 15% ~ 25% for boys and 20% ~ 30% for girls. If the adult male body fat rate exceeds 25% and the female body fat rate exceeds 30%, even if the weight and body mass index values are within the normal range, they are still obese.
