Kangaroos are herbivores, eating all kinds of plants, and some also eat fungi. Kangaroos are mostly active at night, but some are active in the early morning or evening. They feed on short, moist grass near the ground, leaving long grass and hay to other animals. Some kinds of kangaroos also eat leaves or small tree teeth. The "racial discrimination" in kangaroo family is very serious, and it is intolerable for foreign members to enter the family. Even family members who come back after a long absence are not welcome. Even if the family accepts new members, they must be taught a lesson until they learn many "rules".
Reproductive habits of kangaroos
The female kangaroo has two wombs. The baby in the right uterus has just been born, and the left uterus is pregnant with the baby's embryo. However, the embryo will not begin to develop until the kangaroo grows up and leaves the pouch completely. About 40 days will be born in the same way, so that the left and right uterus are pregnant in turn. If the external conditions are right, mother kangaroo will continue to breed. Kangaroos breed once or twice a year, and baby kangaroos are born about 30-40 days after fertilization. They are very small, have no vision and have little hair. They are stored in the pouch of the female kangaroo immediately after birth, and do not leave the pouch for a short time until 6-7 months. After one year, you can wean yourself and leave the nursing bag, but you can still move around the female kangaroo and get help and protection at any time.
Species classification of kangaroos
1, red kangaroo: red kangaroo is the most famous kangaroo, with the largest size, living in the arid zone of Australia, where the average annual rainfall is below 500mm. Because kangaroo's food contains a lot of water, it can survive in areas without running water. In fact, only male kangaroos are red and female kangaroos are gray-blue in red kangaroo, but red female kangaroos have also appeared under group breeding and hybridization.
2. Great red kangaroo: Great red kangaroo is the largest marsupial, a representative species of kangaroo, and can be called the king of modern marsupials. It looks like a mouse, like a giant mouse, but it is not related to the mouse. Body hair is reddish brown, body length 130 ~ 150 cm, tail length 120 ~ 130 cm, and weight 70 ~ 90 kg. Small head, long face, black beard marks on both sides of nostrils, big eyes, long ears, strange appearance, attractive.
3. Oriental grey kangaroo: Oriental grey kangaroo is a kangaroo in southern and eastern Australia. The number is about 7 million and generally weighs about 66 kilograms. Standing about 2 meters high, the moving speed is very fast, and the top speed can reach 64 kilometers per hour. Although not as famous as red kangaroo, the eastern grey kangaroo is the most common and lives in fertile areas.
4. Western Grey Kangaroo: The western grey kangaroo is one of the largest kangaroos in Australia, with a height of about 1.3 meters, almost all over southern Australia. Living in open woodland, wasteland and grassland, they feed on grass, leaves, bark and shrubs from dusk to early morning. It has high tolerance to some phytotoxins. Living in groups, with 40 ~ 50 members, elderly males usually live alone, and the life span of wild western gray kangaroos can be as long as 20 years old.
5. Musk kangaroo: Musk deer bag is only1.5 ~ 20cm long, and its tail is1.2.7 ~1.5cm long. It is the smallest kangaroo in the world. Compared with the common kangaroo jumping on the grassland, it is a typical dwarf species. It has lived in the tropical rain forest for more than 20 million years. Scientists are very worried about their survival and think that they are easily affected by environmental changes.
