In ancient times, every city had a bookstore to receive students who were rushing to take exams. Guangzhou also had bookstores in the Qing Dynasty. From ancient times to the present, there are many people who do nothing and bully the weak for a living. In that period of the Qing Dynasty, they were bullies, and government officials could do nothing about them.

Every year, a large number of readers living in Guangzhou Bookstore are harassed by bullies. Most of the scholars come from all counties and villages in this city, and they have no friends in the city, so they have become the "fat meat" in the eyes of these bullies. As a result, these literati complained bitterly and were unbearable, but they dared not resist. First, they have no force, and second, they have no power, so they have to regard it as "breaking the wealth to avoid disaster", which also encourages the arrogance of those bullies.

Later, a candidate surnamed Chen in Xinhui County, Guangdong Province couldn't stand it. That year, he was admitted to Jinshi, became famous, and worked in the Imperial Academy. He thought of a way to save the scholar who came to Guangzhou Bookstore.

Chen's literati founded Chen's Bookstore, adhering to the benevolent philosophy of "being poor and being able to help the world".

A poor scholar naturally didn't have the financial resources to build this bookstore, so he mobilized the Chen family in Guangdong and encouraged them to donate money. The more people donate, the more they can get a job in Chen's bookstore. Those who donate more can also put coffins in the bookstore for candidates to study. Therefore, it attracted a large number of donations, which led to such a luxurious and exquisite bookstore.

This also benefited many scholars who came to Guangzhou to take the exam.

Bookstore and ancestral hall

Some people wonder why Chen Family Temple is Chen Family Temple.

On the surface, Chen's Bookstore is actually Chen's ancestral hall. At that time, the rulers of the Qing Dynasty believed that this ancestral temple was built in the name of a bookstore because some people wanted to gather people to rebel.

Unfortunately, the good times did not last long. A few years later, the imperial examination system was abolished, and Chen Bookstore lost its superficial significance. Later, due to various factors, with the changes of the times, Chen Bookstore also encountered many things.

Chen's bookstore was once used as a school, a museum, a production workshop, etc. Most of them were destroyed. After the reform and opening up, Chen Bookstore was finally allowed to be called Chen Ancestral Hall, which made Chen's descendants very happy, and the ancestral tablets could also be placed in the Ancestral Hall. 198 1 year to repair and overhaul the Chenjiaci. The repair cost is more than one million, and many old craftsmen are invited. It took two years to restore success and fully open up. This is also the Chenjia Temple that people see now.
