What's the difference between fat ap and thin ap?
1, the networking scale and application scenarios are different.

Fat AP is generally used in the construction of small wireless networks and can work independently without the cooperation of AC. It is generally suitable for families, small businesses or small office scenes, and can be completely covered with only a small amount.

Thin AP is generally used in the construction of medium and large wireless networks. A certain number of APS cooperate with AC products to form a huge wireless network coverage. The usage scenarios are generally shopping malls, supermarkets, scenic spots, hotels, restaurants, entertainment, corporate offices and so on.

2. Wireless roaming is different.

Fat AP networking cannot realize wireless roaming. When users walk from the coverage area of one fat AP to the coverage area of another fat AP, they will reconnect to a fat AP with strong signal, re-authenticate, and re-obtain the IP address, which will lead to the phenomenon of network disconnection.

When a user walks from the coverage area of one thin AP to the coverage area of another thin AP, the signal will be automatically switched, and there is no need to re-authenticate and re-acquire the IP address, so the network is always online and easy to use.

3. Automatic load balancing is different.

When multiple users are connected to the same fat AP, the fat AP cannot automatically balance the load and assign users to other fat APS with lighter load, so the fat AP will frequently have network failures caused by excessive load.

In the networking of AC+ thin AP, when multiple users are connected to the same thin AP, AC will automatically assign users to other AP with lighter load according to the load balancing algorithm, which reduces the failure rate of AP and improves the availability of the whole network.
