Jiayuguan Airport has become an internationally recognized training and competition venue for gliders because of its special geographical location, broad landform features, good clearance conditions and modern ground support facilities. 1987 Gansu Aviation School is responsible for the construction of gliding training base, which has been approved by the State Council and Civil Aviation Administration and shared with Jiayuguan Airport, and has become one of the three largest gliding bases in the world.
