Can women with small eyes wear big-rimmed glasses that are standard for beautiful women?
Large-rimmed glasses have become a trend, and they can be seen everywhere, whether in life or in our favorite TV series.

With the increasing myopia of teenagers, more and more students wear glasses. Nowadays, most students pursue fashion and choose large-rimmed glasses.

Are big-rimmed glasses really good?

From the clinical experience, wearing large-frame glasses may reduce the visual quality and affect the beauty and wearing experience.

Yang Ling, an optician at Changsha Aier Eye Hospital, reminds everyone that not everyone can control large frames, depending on whether the pupil distance and luminosity of the eyes are appropriate.

So what are the precautions for choosing large-frame glasses? First of all, the closer the pupillary distance of both eyes is to the width of the frame, the better, preferably ≤ 8 mm

In order to ensure that the optical center and pupil of the lens are in a straight line when wearing glasses, the lens will be moved when processing glasses. The movement of the eyeball is equal to the geometric width of the frame minus the pupil distance, and the wider the frame, the more it moves. This is easy to cause deformation and aberration of peripheral visual objects.

Secondly, high myopia should not wear big frames.

There are two main considerations: first, the higher the luminosity, the higher the probability of blurred vision, dizziness and object deformation caused by peripheral aberration when the lens has the same centroid offset.

Secondly, myopia lenses are thick around and thin in the middle. The bigger the frame, the thicker the edge of the lens and the heavier the glasses, which affects the beauty and comfort of wearing glasses.

Once again, hyperopia should not wear a big frame.

If the selected frame is too large, only the hyperopia lens with larger diameter can be customized, which will lead to obvious thickening of the lens. In many cases, the thickness of lenses will differ by more than half with different frame sizes. Such glasses are heavier to wear, which will increase the pressure on the nose and auricle and look like a thick magnifying glass.

Finally, Yang Ling, an optician at Changsha Aier Eye Hospital, reminds everyone:

Large-rimmed glasses may be equivalent to wearing a "prism": when the distance between the optical centers of the lenses is roughly equal to the distance between the two pupils of the human eye, the human eye will feel clear, comfortable and lasting.

Some patients with small pupillary distance may have too large pupillary distance error when they are equipped with oversized frames, because the lens blank can't move so far, and they will be assigned to patients after some optometry units that are not strictly inspected.

Wearing glasses with the wrong pupil distance is equivalent to putting a pair of prisms in front of your eyes. The light will produce excessive refraction, and the wearer is prone to ghosting when seeing things; Wearing it for a long time may even lead to dizziness and insomnia.

In order to obtain clear, comfortable and lasting vision, the choice of frame is as important as lens when matching glasses. I suggest you go to an eye hospital, and a professional optician will give you personalized advice according to your pupil distance, face shape, ametropia and luminosity.
