Zhang Huilan and Bai Zhongyan are very supportive of Deng Xiaoping's national policies of "four modernizations" and "reform and opening up". They hope to help the people of China, and at the same time, open their doors to accept beneficial things from the West and minimize negative effects. At that time, Bai Zhongyan also wrote a song "Take its essence and discard its dross", which was broadcast on many domestic radio stations. This song expresses their sincere desire to serve the people of China.
From 65438 to 0982, Bai Zhongyan and Zhang Huilan accepted the invitation of all-china youth federation and Chinese record companies and held a series of concerts to introduce modern electronic music (rock pop music) to the people of China. Their bands, Chaoyang Band and Survivor Band, were the first two western rock bands to tour in China. The publishing house hopes to compile their speeches into books for more social scientists to see, and at the same time prepare for eliminating the negative effects brought by opening up. For this work, Bai Zhongyan and Zhang Huilan spent a lot of time and energy, conducting social surveys, collecting materials and compiling books, and finished this book together. Finally, after their tour, the 600-page "Western Social Diseases" was published by the Sanlian Bookstore of Life, Reading and Knowledge at 1983.
