Default is a shortcut to personal style. Sometimes we may spend a lot of time on a certain photo to achieve our own satisfactory results. In order to maintain this effect and let other photos use the same effect, we need to establish a preset according to the adjustment data of this photo.
By default, it is a filter, but a personal filter.
Today, let's talk about how to use Lr to build your own presets.
First, select a photo for basic adjustment.
Basic adjustments can be made according to your own preferences and habits, such as adjusting the horizontal line, cutting photos and re-composing, adjusting the white balance and contrasting color scales. In short, it is enough to adjust to your satisfaction.
Today's adjustment is similar to the fading effect in Instagram and is one of the most popular filters in Instagram.
When we adjust the picture in the basic plane, we can make the first adjustment in the tone curve. First, we need to click the button in the lower right corner to edit the point curve independently.
The interface after clicking is like this:
First, create a control anchor at about 25/25%, as follows:
Then drag the control point at the lower left corner (0,0) up to about (0, 15). Of course, every photo is different, it all depends on your feelings. It doesn't matter if you drag it to (0,25), but if you pull it too high, the image won't look real. You have to procrastinate according to your own ideas.
Around (0, 15), the picture looks like this:
If the picture becomes like this around (0,25), it may not look good, but this is only the difference between individual images. Maybe some types of photos will be better at this point, depending on the image itself.
We still continue to adjust based on (0, 15). At this point, we can see that the center of the overall tone curve has been bent downward. In order to better control the gradient of the shadow area, I created another anchor point at (50, 50), that is, the position of the center point, to straighten the curve.
In this way, an adjustment similar to the dilution effect is basically completed. Let's take a look at the effect comparison before and after the modification.
Of course, so far, the later work has not been completed. If we are satisfied with this effect, we can naturally establish a preset on this basis. We can also adjust the details, or use tools such as HSL and color separation to fine-tune some colors in the picture.
Then, a work that belongs to your personal style was born.
The last part is to save the operation steps as a fixed preset. Click the "+"sign in the preset box on the left panel to save and rename according to the adjustment steps.
There is no need to adjust the same type of photos step by step in the future. To put it bluntly, it is like a filter, but it is best not to equate it with a filter. Every photo is different, and no setting can be applied to every photo. While applying the preset, we need to make fine adjustments according to the characteristics of the photo itself in order to finally become a real personal work.
