Why was Wushu included in the Beijing Olympic Games?
Wushu is just a performance.

It is a foregone conclusion that Wushu will become a special event of Beijing Olympic Games. In this way, Wushu is not the official event of the Beijing Olympic Games, but appears in the Beijing Olympic Games in a special status, which is different from the other 28 events of the Olympic Games. So, what are the settings and styles of Wushu medals? Will Wushu become an official Olympic event in the future? With all kinds of questions, our reporter interviewed Chen Guorong, deputy director of Wushu Sports Management Center of the State Sports General Administration.

IOC officials are full of praise.

Chen Guorong said that although Wushu has not become an official event of the Beijing Olympic Games, China still strives to enjoy the same "treatment" as the official event of the 28th Olympic Games in all aspects. Chen Guorong emphasized that the promotion and operation of Wushu is the key to determine its position in the Olympic Games. According to Chen Guorong, in order to let IOC officials know more about Wushu, they invited Verbruggen, chairman of the IOC Beijing Olympic Games Coordination Committee, and Ferry, executive director of the Olympic Games, to Zhengzhou on June 5th and 5th to attend the closing ceremony of the 2nd World Traditional Wushu Festival, and organized a special Wushu performance for them. This performance is divided into three parts: Wushu routine competition, Wushu routine performance and Wushu Sanshou performance. Among them, there are 10 events in Wushu routine competition, which are exactly 10 events in Wushu competitions that may occur during the Beijing Olympic Games, namely, Changquan, Nanquan, Nandao, Nangun, Tai Ji Chuan, Taijijian, fencing, fencing, spear and stick. Participating in the competition and performance are China National Wushu Training Team and Henan Sanda Team, which are composed of several world champions. The dazzling performances of the athletes have won applause from IOC officials and Chinese and foreign martial arts athletes from time to time.

After the performance, Verbruggen said to Chen Guorong, "What a wonderful project, it didn't even enter the Olympic Games." He believes that the scoring method of Wushu routine competition is rigorous and advanced, much more scientific than karate, and Sanda is also wonderful, much better than taekwondo and judo competitions.

Add Sanda to the routine.

According to Chen Guorong, the International Wushu Federation has reported to the International Olympic Committee the events and medal setting scheme of Wushu competition in the Beijing Olympic Games. At that time, the competition will produce 15 gold medals, including 10 gold medal for routine. Sanda has five gold medals, 56, 70 and 85 kilograms for men and 52 and 60 kilograms for women. In June 5438+10, the first Wushu Olympic national team in the history of China was assembled in Xi 'an, which opened the prelude for China Wushu to prepare for the Beijing Olympic Games. 50 Sanda athletes and 48 routine athletes participated in the training.

According to our reporter's understanding, at the beginning, "Wushu entered the Olympics" was only a routine part of applying for Wushu to enter the Olympic Games. Why is Sanda added to the special events of Beijing Olympic Games now? In this regard, Chen Guorong explained that there were two main reasons for not considering Sanda's application to enter the Olympic Games at that time: First, there was no women's world competition in Sanda at that time, and according to the regulations of the Olympic Committee, the women's world competition was to apply to enter the Olympic Games; Second, some people in the Chinese Olympic Committee think that routine and Sanda are completely different. Sanda is an antagonistic event, while routine is a performance event. If you want to enter the Olympic Games, you can only choose one strategically, otherwise it will make the International Olympic Committee feel too chaotic and it will be more difficult to enter the Olympic Games. Comparatively speaking, routines can better show the traditional cultural characteristics of China Wushu, while Sanda and boxing, which have entered the Olympic Games, are quite similar to outsiders, and it is difficult to attract the attention of the International Olympic Committee. So China finally decided to bid for the Olympic Games in the form of routine.

Unfortunately, due to the Olympic Committee's strict control over Olympic events and the fact that a major event had to be applied for and approved by the project committee seven years ago, Wushu missed this opportunity and it was difficult for Wushu to enter the Olympic Games. After many efforts, at the opening ceremony of the 10 National Games held in Nanjing last year, IOC President Rogge made it clear that Wushu will appear as a special event in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which is different from both performance events and official events. Its full name is "Wushu Competition in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games".

As Wushu is not an official event of the Beijing Olympic Games, it is not necessary for the International Wushu Federation to set up a routine competition as it originally proposed to apply only for routines to enter the Olympic Games. Therefore, Sanda has been added to the Wushu competition plan recently reported to the International Olympic Committee.

Strive for equal treatment with the other 28 items.

In addition, the International Wushu Federation is still making a final effort to provide Wushu athletes with the same treatment as other athletes.

Chen Guorong explained that fighting for equal "treatment" refers to fighting for Wushu athletes to enter the Olympic Village. The medals in Wushu competitions are basically the same as those in official competitions, and are awarded by the International Olympic Committee. Information system, registration system and broadcast system of Wushu competition entering the Olympic Games. Chen Guorong said that if the above goals cannot be achieved, it will mean that the "Wushu Competition of Beijing Olympic Games" is completely divorced from the Beijing Olympic Games. It is reported that most of the above requirements can be approved by the International Olympic Committee, but the International Olympic Committee said that the medals in Wushu competitions are not exactly the same as those in official competitions, and there should be some changes. The scheme reported by the International Wushu Federation is that one side of the medal is the symbol of the International Olympic Committee; On the other hand, it is the symbol of the International Wushu Federation, and the specific style has to be examined and approved by the International Olympic Committee. In addition, it is difficult for Wushu competitions to enter the Olympic broadcasting system, because the International Olympic Committee has signed television broadcasting agreements with major television organizations in the world, and there will be some practical problems in increasing Wushu competitions.

Faced with such a good opportunity of Beijing Olympic Games, Wushu can't become an official event of the Olympic Games in the end. Does this mean that Wushu has no chance to enter the Olympic Games in the future? In this regard, Chen Guorong said frankly that the official inclusion of Wushu in the Olympic Games was a bit "untimely".

Since Rogge was elected president of the International Olympic Committee, he has been advocating the "slimming" of the Olympic Games, which has also increased the difficulty of Wushu entering the Olympic Games. Korean listed Taekwondo as a performance event in Seoul Olympic Games in 1988, but it didn't become an official event until Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, during which it took 12 years. In 2008, China Wushu was listed as a special event of the Olympic Games, but it happened that the International Olympic Committee was "slimming". I'm afraid it will take more time for China Wushu to realize its "Olympic dream". Of course, there are still opportunities. The most realistic consideration is that if Japan can win the right to host the 20 16 Olympic Games, it is likely that Japan will join hands with China to "bind" karate and martial arts together and apply to enter the Olympic Games.

Finally, Chen Guorong said confidently: The appearance of Wushu in the Beijing Olympic Games is not the end, but the ultimate goal is to become an official Olympic event.
