There are two companies specializing in astaxanthin production in Japan. One is Biogenic Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan's Ebara Group, and its product brand is Astaking, which means "king of oxidation resistance"; One is Fuji Chemical of Japan, and the product brand is Astareal. Because of the high latitude in Japan, it is not suitable for large-scale culture of Haematococcus pluvialis. Japan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Group of Japan jointly established a Haematococcus pluvialis culture base in Brunei, an equatorial country, and the extraction and production of astaxanthin were completed in Japan. Another Fuji chemical company initially established a Haematococcus pluvialis cultivation base in Hawaii, but ended in failure and bought an astaxanthin company in Sweden instead. Results The price of astaxanthin from Fuji Chemical Company was higher, and another Wuyuan Group extracted astaxanthin from its own raw materials, so the price of astaxanthin was lower. Generally speaking, the two brands of astaxanthin in Japan are all extracted from Haematococcus pluvialis in closed culture, with high purity and much higher quality than other brands on the market.
