There are many legends about Sanjie Liu, which are passed down orally by the people, recorded in ancient books and local chronicles, and spread in Yishan and Liuzhou, Guangxi. Legend has it that Liu Sanjie was born in a poor family. She and her brother cultivated their mother by firewood. Third sister is smart and beautiful, and she sings well. Mo Huairen, the rich man, wanted to marry her, but she refused. So Mo Huairen invited three scholars who could sing in an attempt to defeat Third Sister. Three scholars took a boat to Yizhou, Guangxi, the hometown of Sanjie Liu. The first time they saw Third Sister's "elder sister" washing clothes by the river, it was enough to listen to her singing. Later, Sanjie Liu and these three scholars sang against each other, and they were defeated. Mo Huairen forcibly banned songs among the people, but there has been no way. Mo Huairen, who became angry from embarrassment, plotted to assassinate Third Sister. Third Sister cleverly dressed up as a beggar and told Mo Renhuai that Third Sister was singing in the cave again and took him to see it. When Mo Huairen walked into the mouth of the cave, Third Sister knocked on the mouth of the cave with a cane, and the mouth of the cave was closed immediately, killing it. Later, Sanjie and a young man went to Yufeng Mountain in Liuzhou and Qixingyan in Guilin to sing. Finally, they became a pair of orioles and flew into the sky. This story is beautiful and vivid, and it is the first story to sort out the legend of Sanjie Liu after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Liu Sanjie's legend goes on to say that Liu Sanjie is famous for her intelligence, beauty, hard work and good singing. She fell in love with Li Xiaoniu, a singer selling firewood in the same village. Mo Huairen, the rich man, tied them up and threw them into the river in the name of destroying ethics. Li drowned, and Third Sister drifted to Liuzhou, where she was rescued by an old fisherman and adopted as a daughter. Later, Sanjie Liu became famous for singing in Liuzhou. Mo Huairen invited three singers to compete with Third Sister, and she lost. Don't become angry from embarrassment, ask the thugs to tie up Third Sister and put her in a pigsty and sink into the river. After the death of Third Sister, two big carp were sacrificed in front of her grave, and the grave between the sacrifices was cracked. Third sister jumped out and rode a carp to the sky, and the other carp became a "Jade Peak".
Liu Sanjie was born in Zhuangxiang and grew up in Gehai, so she can export into songs. The content of Liu Sanjie's singing is mainly people's life, thoughts and wishes. According to legend, Liu Sanjie left many songs among the people, which are generally divided into the following three categories: first, songs sung by literati; Second, love songs, such as Acacia and Sister Acacia; Third, labor songs. Liu Sanjie and her folk songs have a far-reaching influence on later generations, and the Zhuang people call her the pioneer and leader of "Xu Ge". The stories and legends about her were either processed into poems or adapted into plays and put on the stage. She also filmed the famous film "Third Sister Liu", which was well received by people at home and abroad.
