Step 1: Reduce XP capacity
First, reduce the capacity of Windows XP in the computer. The main purpose is to reduce the system size and compress the image file to 650MB to 700MB, which is convenient for CD burning.
There are two ways to greatly reduce the capacity of XP. Turn off the hibernation function in the control panel → power options first, that is, uncheck the check box with the mouse before enabling hibernation, and at the same time, the hiberfil.sys file in the C:\ root directory will be automatically deleted, saving hard disk space roughly equivalent to virtual memory capacity.
The second is to delete the files in the folder C:\Windwos\System32\dll cache with SFC command. Specifically, use the mouse to click Start → Run on the Windows XP taskbar, and enter "sfc.exe/Purge Cache" (note that there is a space between sfc.exe and/) in the open command line, so that about 300MB can be vacated.
In addition, you can find and delete files in temporary folders (such as temp).
Step 2: Uninstall and modify the hardware driver.
Open Device Manager (click My Computer → Properties → Hardware → Device Manager, and then uninstall the network card, universal serial bus controller, sound, video and game controller, monitor and graphics card in turn. To do this, right-click the hardware name and select Uninstall.
If the system needs to be restarted, you should choose "No" and do not start! Because once restarted, the system will rescan the hardware, and all the changes just made will disappear.
Next, you should also right-click the "ACPI Single Processor PC" item under the "Computer" item in the "Device Manager" list, and select "Update Driver" in the function menu that appears later; Click "Install from a list or a specified location" in the dialog box that appears, and then click "Next" button; Then click "Don't search, I want to choose my own driver installation", and then click "Next" button; After entering the "Display Compatible Hardware" page, change the model to "Standard PC". Continue to click the "Next" button, and finally click the "Finish" button to complete the modification. Then the computer will prompt you to restart the computer. Also, don't start it, just click "No".
After modifying the ACPI attribute, you should also adjust the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controller" to the "standard dual-channel PCI IDE controller". The method is the same as modifying the ACPI property, and remember not to restart the computer.
At this point, a "clean" Windows XP system is ready. Next, we can repackage it.
Step 3: Repackage Windows XP.
The system repackaging tool is provided on the Windows XP installation CD, and the path is "CD directory: \SUPPORT\TOOLS\DEPLOY". CAB ",but it should be noted that this file can only encapsulate Windows XP operating system without Service Pack patch.
Windows XP, which has already installed the SP 1 patch, needs to download a new version of the packaging tool Sysprep. Then create a folder named Sysprep in the root directory of C:\, and use WinRAR to extract DEPLOY.CAB. cab or the new packaging tool downloaded from the Internet to C:\Sysprep.
1. Double-click the Setupingr.exe file, enter Windows Installation Manager, and then click Next.
2. Select "Create a new answer file" and click "Next".
3. Select the second item "Sysprep Installation" in the purpose dialog box of the answer file, and then click the "Next" button.
4. Then select the currently running operating system in the "Select the platform to install this answer file" dialog box, and click "Next".
5. Select "Yes, fully automatic installation" in the "Do you want to install automatically" dialog box, and then click the "Next" button.
6. Enter the following Windows installation management settings page. First, enter the user name and company on the "Custom Software" page, and click "Next".
7. On the next display setting page, select "Use Windows default values" for color, screen area and refresh frequency, and then click "Next" button.
8. In the time zone page, select Beijing time, and then click Next.
9. Enter the installation serial number of Windows XP on the "Provide Product Key" page. Be sure not to enter it wrong, because you can't go back after entering the next step!
10. Then enter your computer name on the Computer Name page and click the Next button.
1 1. You can choose to enter or not enter the password on the System Administrator Password page. It is recommended not to enter the password, which is more convenient to modify after installing the system.
Use the default values in the following pages: network components, workgroup or domain, and telephone service. Click the "Next" button again.
12. Select Chinese (China) on the Region page, and then click the Next button.
13. Select "Chinese (Simplified)" on the next language page, and then click "Next" button.
14. Click Next on the Install Printer page to skip the installation.
15. Click "Next" on the "Run Once" and "Additional Commands" pages shown below without making any settings.
16. Finally, click the "Finish" button on the "OEM Replicator String" page, and click "OK" in the dialog box where the answer file is stored, so as to finally complete the establishment of the automatic installation answer file for Windows XP. The file name of this answer is sysprep.inf, and it is stored in the folder C:\sysprep.
17. Next, the Windows XP operating system is formally packaged. Double-click the C:\sysprep\sysprep.exe file with the mouse, and then click OK in the warning window.
18. Enter the system preparation window dialog box before packaging. * * * There are four options in the mark check box. The third item (NoSIDGen) and the fourth item (early activation) are dedicated to operating systems above XP; The second is to use MiniSetup, and the first is to detect non-plug and play devices (PnP). We have to check the last two or four items, then click the "repackage" button at the top of the interface, and then the computer will automatically shut down and repackage the task. Finally, make a high compression ratio image file with Ghost software to ensure that Win XP can be backed up to a CD-R burning disc with a capacity of 700MB.
19. Precautions for operation steps
When deleting "Universal Serial Bus Controller", it is best to use a mouse and keyboard with PS2 interface to prevent USB mouse and keyboard from not responding. In addition, don't store other files or subfolders in the C:\sysprep folder, because everything in it will be automatically deleted after the first restart of XP system. Also remember that you must uninstall the driver and repackage it at once. Never restart the computer halfway! Step 4: Burn the ghost mirror CD.
Take Nero 6.0 CD burning software as an example.
1. Switch to "Nero Explosions" mode after running Nero, and then select "Data Disc →" Bootable Data Disc "in the function menu on the right.
2. In the CD content window, click the "Add" button on the right to add the XP system image and ghost program files made before. If you want to use mouse operation in Ghost, you should also add a mouse driver.
3. Put the Win98 startup disk into the floppy drive, and then click the Next button.
4. Enter the "Final Burn Settings" window, and then click the "Burn" button at the lower right to burn all XP Ghost image files and ghost programs that have just been repackaged into CD-R discs.
Step 5: How to use XP image CD?
The usage of this Windows XP mirror CD is: set the computer as a CD in the BIOS of the motherboard, put it into the newly burned CD, and then use Ghost in DOS mode to restore the mirror file of Windows XP system to the hard disk. This method can also install Windows Server 2003 operating system on all computers with image files installed.
