"Avalokitesvara with a thousand hands", also known as "Avalokitesvara with a thousand eyes and a thousand arms", is one of the six major avalokitesvaras in Buddhism.

Buddhism believes that the sufferings and troubles of all beings are varied, and the needs and desires of all beings are also different. So there must be a lot of infinite magic and wisdom to help all beings. According to the records in the Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes Avalokitesvara Mahayana Sutra, Avalokitesvara said that when listening to the Avalokitesvara Mahayana Sutra told by Wang, Avalokitesvara was for the benefit of all sentient beings. "I swear at once that if anyone who can benefit all sentient beings comes, I will arm thousands of hands and thousands of eyes" and "I swear, I will prepare thousands of hands and thousands of eyes". No matter whether all beings want to be greedy for money or avoid disasters and diseases, avalokitesvara with thousands of hands can be merciful, relieve all kinds of sufferings and give all kinds of benefits. In Buddhism's view, as long as you truly believe in avalokitesvara, there are four benefits: eliminating disasters, gaining enlightenment, loving Taoism and surrendering.

The original artistic form of Avalokitesvara with a Thousand Hands is based on Avalokitesvara with a Thousand Hands and Eyes, which is called Avalokitesvara with a Thousand Hands and Eyes. Although its scriptures and images were brought to China by Indian preachers in the early Tang Dynasty, they took root in China after many twists and turns. Even so. In the temple murals and cave temples in the Tang and Song Dynasties, such themes are still rare. At present, the earliest recorded painting history may have been painted by Zuo Quan, a famous Sichuan painter, in Manjusri Pavilion, Chengdu Third Academy, during the Tang Bao calendar year (825-826), but it has now disappeared. Some experts believe that before the discovery of earlier image data, the changes of thousands of hands in Dunhuang grottoes such as 79, 1 13 and 148 in the Tang Dynasty can be considered as the earliest existing images of thousands of hands in China.

There are many well-preserved Guanyin statues in Sichuan Grottoes. The Sleeping Buddha Gully and Thousand Buddha Villages in Anyue, the Luohan Cave in Fushun, the Chonglong Mountain in Zizi, the Thousand Buddha Rock in Jiajiang, the Guanyin Stone Carvings in Dazu Baoding and Beishan are all fine works. Among them, the caves No.9 and No.273 in Dazu Beishan Grottoes and No.8 in Baoding Grottoes are more representative.

The statue of Guanyin with a thousand hands in Cave 9 of Fowan Grottoes in Beishan was unearthed in the late Tang Dynasty. The niche is 2.9 meters high, 2.8 meters wide and 0.9 meters deep. On the main wall of the niche, Guanyin wears a corolla, and a Buddha is crowned. There are two beams of light on me, which hit the top of the niche from left to right and flew for two days. Badge wreaths all, dressed in heavenly clothes, with feet on the lotus, sitting on a diamond seat, square, with a height of 1. 1, a width of 1.5 and a thickness of 0.5m.. Use 40 second-hand (multi-disabled) hands to hold a Buddha on the crown, put your hands together on your chest, put your hands under your abdomen a little, put your hands on your knees and seal them quietly, and hold bottles, bells, wheels, mirrors, bows, fangs, shields and other instruments in the other hand. The peach-shaped lamp is supported on the back, and the outer edge is engraved with flame patterns, and many arms are engraved inside to show thousands of hands. Take a look at each palm and show dry eyes. On the right side of Guanyin, an old man was kneeling, bony, with a pocket in his hand, begging for something. Kneeling on the left is a hungry ghost, holding a bowl in both hands and begging.

There are three statues on the left and right walls of the niche. Inside the upper layer, five buddhas stand in the clouds, that is, ten buddhas. Raytheon carved a sheep's head, the rain master held the Buddha's dust, the wind god held the wind bag, and Dian Mu hung a mirror. The middle layer is Manjusri riding on the back of a green lion, Pu Xian riding on the back of a white elephant, Luo and Kuma Luo Tian riding on the back of a cow. Carve a bodhisattva, two waiters and two king kong statues on the lower floor.

No.273 niche of Fowan in Beishan Grottoes was carved in the Five Dynasties. The niche is 1.sl m high, 1. 1 m wide and 0.73 m deep. The main statue of avalokitesvara in the shrine is basically the same as that in the ninth shrine mentioned above. The difference is that the statues on the left and right walls of this niche are far less abundant than those on the No.9 niche, and only one waiter and one waitress are carved on each side. The waitress stood with something. The waiter is a Persian fairy, with a height of 0.45 meters and a shoulder width of 0. 13 meters. High nose, deep eyes, long beard, slim figure and beautiful appearance. Hold a long stick in your left hand and a bead in your right. On the top wall of another niche, there is a flying sky on the left and right of the flat lotus-shaped treasure cover, which is beautiful.

Avalokitesvara with a thousand hands in the No.8 niche of the Giant Buddha Bay in Baoding Grottoes is covered in the "Great Compassion Pavilion" at the eastern end of Nanyan. It was carved in the Southern Song Dynasty and is the pinnacle of its kind.

This niche is a cliff niche with a large oval shape on the left and right sides. The height of the niche is 7.2m, the width is12.5m, and the cliff surface is 88m. Lord Guanyin, dry hand, 3 meters high, meditation. The seat is in the shape of King Kong Sumeru, with a height of 0.7 meters. Si Lishi lifted the seat from left to right, Guanyin's forehead stood upright, and the crown was decorated with eight small buddhas. On the crown, two streamers were hung to the shoulders, and the eight hands were folded on the chest, or printed, or caressed the knees. Looking down at the dark wisdom, there is a face of Zhang Shanliang and a compassionate heart to save all beings from suffering.

On the left side of Guanyin, there is a male figure, wearing a long gown with wide sleeves and a square towel. On the left is a female image, wearing a crown, a pig's head, a round neck and a Confucian costume. There is a female figure on the right side of Guanyin, holding something in her hand and wearing a long skirt with round neck and wide sleeves. There is a woman with an elephant head on the right. In the lower left corner of the niche, an old man knelt on the ground, carrying a pocket, and Guanyin held copper coins in one hand. In the lower right corner, a hungry ghost kneels with both hands holding a bowl, and Guanyin gives food with one hand.

The most striking thing is that on the left and right sides of Guanyin and above the head, seemingly countless "golden" hands are proudly embossed like peacocks. Each hand has an eye and each hand has an object. Its posture is stretched, bent, straight or sideways, round and colorful, resplendent and magnificent, giving people a sense of dazzling.

So, how many hands does this Guanyin have?

It is said that someone tried to solve this mystery a long time ago. But after counting, the distribution of hands is too complicated and has never been clear. Therefore, counting hands has become a difficult problem. In the Qing Dynasty, a clever monk took advantage of the opportunity of sticking gold foil to stick a hand to represent a number, and finally solved the mystery: Guanyin in Fowan, Baoding Mountain has 1007 hands and 1007 eyes. Because avalokitesvara is generally shaped like two eyes and two hands, with twenty hands and eyes on each side. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to call it the only true Guanyin statue with thousands of hands and dry eyes in Buddhist art in China.

There is a touching story about the origin of Guanyin. Legend has it that King Miao Zhuang of ancient India had three beautiful princesses. The eldest daughter Jin Miao, the second daughter Miao Yin and the youngest daughter Miaoshan. Jin Miao and Miao Yin both serve their parents at home, while Miao Shan was a devout Buddhist since childhood and later became a nun. King Miao Zhuang tried to persuade her to return to the palace, but she refused. In a rage, King Miao Zhuang ordered people to tear down temples and drive away monks and nuns. I didn't know it was the fault of the gods, so that King Miao Zhuang had 500 large abscesses all over his body, which could not be cured for a long time. Later, a doctor said that this disease can only be cured by the combination of hand and eye. So Wang asked for help, but neither princess would help. When Yincui gorge found out outside, she resolutely offered her hands and eyes to cure her father with medicine. Sure enough, Wang recovered soon. This incident not only made Wang deeply educated, but also touched Sakyamuni. He gave Princess Miaoshan thousands of hands and eyes so that she could save the suffering beings forever. Since then, Princess Miaoshan has become a goddess of mercy with thousands of eyes.

According to textual research, this story comes from Guan Daosheng, the wife of Zhao in Yuan Dynasty. Therefore, Guanyin with a thousand hands in Baoding Grottoes never originated from this story, but was still created according to Buddhist scriptures.

Compared with the above statues, it is not difficult to see that the ninth niche of Fowan Grottoes in Beishan, regardless of the limitation of space in the niche, focuses on the faithfulness and strictness of Buddhist scriptures, and abides by the rituals stipulated by Buddhist scriptures, basically showing the contents of the Compassion of a Thousand Hands, which can be called the most complete Guanyin Sutra in Sichuan Grottoes. On the premise of strictly observing the basic contents of Buddhist scriptures, the 273rd niche deleted some contents according to the actual situation of the space in the niche. The eighth niche of the Giant Buddha Bay Grottoes in Baoding is different. Fully rendered and displayed the dry eyes of thousands of hands and the various instruments held in their hands, and put the expression of Buddhist scriptures in a secondary position. This reflects that from the middle and late Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty, the Avalokitesvara statue in Dazu Grottoes experienced a historical process from Ke Yan's adherence to Buddhist rituals to simplification of Buddhist scriptures.

At the Spring Festival Gala in 2005, the program "Avalokitesvara with a Thousand Hands" by China Disabled Art Troupe touched all China.

In the past, people in China, especially women, worshipped Guanyin in Buddhism, largely because they believed that Guanyin could send children. Guanyin is not the highest god in Buddhism, but its influence in China is much greater than that of Sakyamuni because of its function of sending children. It can be said that almost all ordinary people don't know Guanyin, but not many people know Sakyamuni. The temples of Guanyin are all over China, and the statue of Guanyin is very common among ordinary people, whether as a handicraft or as a deity.

Guanyin entered China with Buddhism. After Guanyin entered China, influenced by China culture, a series of changes took place.

The biggest change is that the gender of Guanyin has changed from male to female. Guanyin was originally disguised as a woman in Indian Buddhism, and was also disguised as a woman when it was first introduced to China. For example, many Guanyin statues in Dunhuang Buddhist paintings are male, and some have two beards. Hua Yan Jing directly depicts the mighty image of Guanyin as a man. A boy went to Mount Putuo to visit Guanyin. "On the diamond in the rock valley forest, there is a free and brave husband who talks with the great bodhisattvas." Of course, although the bodhisattva in Buddhism is disguised as a woman, it is actually neither dead nor alive. In order to say that a bodhisattva can change her gender, especially for the convenience of telling female believers, so she can become a woman. Guanyin has thirty-six changes, and becoming a woman is one of them. The Shurangama Sutra says: "The venerable one is avalokitesvara, saying,' If a woman wants to become a monk, I will see a monk, a queen, a king's wife, a woman and virgins in front of her. "Guanyin can tell people of different genders and identities because she can make many changes. According to the Buddhist scriptures, she can become thirty-six, including six avalokitesvara, fifteen avalokitesvara, thirty-three avalokitesvara and a thousand avalokitesvara in disguise. The varied Guanyin enabled her to "save all beings" in time. When people are in trouble, as long as she reads her name, she can immediately put on the right identity. The variety of Guanyin provided a prerequisite for her to become an out-and-out woman after entering China.

Guanyin became a female image from the Southern and Northern Dynasties. To turn Guanyin into a female image completely, it is necessary to change her life experience and reinvent a birth for her. Guanyin's life experience was originally different. According to "Chinese Sorrow Classic", Guanyin was originally the eldest son of the holy king who deleted the wheel of Tiran, and his name was not warm. There is also a younger brother named Nemo. The father and son supported the Tathagata, a treasure that appeared in the world, became monks and later became enlightenment. The Buddha changed the name of Lunsheng King to "Infinite Purity" and awarded it as the Buddha of the Western Blissful World. With the theme of "Infinite Life", the eldest son prayed for Buddha tepidly, willing to follow the path of Bodhisattva and help all suffering beings. If all sentient beings are suffering, they will say their names, that is, to hear what they hear in cold weather and see what they see in the sky, that is, to help. The treasure Tathagata agreed to his request and named it Guanyin, which means watching the world all the time. As long as he hears the name of "Bodhisattva" killed on earth, he will immediately save him. The Lotus Sutra says, "What's the name of Guanyin? The Buddha speaks endlessly, and the Bodhisattva is kind to the world. If there are infinite beings who suffer from all kinds of troubles in Zimbabwe, they will be relieved if they hear that they are avalokitesvara bodhisattvas and call their names with one heart. " The second prince Nemo was named Tathagata. Father and son are in the paradise of the West together, responsible for attracting all beings and becoming the right and left assistants of Amitabha, nicknamed "Three Saints of the West". Avalokitesvara kept her promise, devoted herself to saving all beings and became a merciful savior. "Guanyin" is a free translation of Sanskrit, which is also translated as "Guang Shi Yin", "Guan Zi Yu" and "Guan Shi Yu". It is said that in the Tang Dynasty, Li Shimin omitted the word "world" for taboo, which was called "Guanyin" for short.

There is also a saying that avalokitesvara and the general trend are lotus incarnations. Guanyin's book says, "Yesterday's gold."

The light lion game is like coming to a country without women. The king entered samadhi in the garden, and the left and right lotus flowers became two sons. It is the general trend that Guanyin is the left name and the contractor is the right name. "The general trend is the general trend.

Avalokitesvara has another life experience in Japan: Avalokitesvara and the general trend are brothers, and they call it leaving early and leaving immediately. My parents died, my family property was taken away, and my brothers were abandoned on a desert island and were about to starve to death. Before they died, the two brothers lamented: in their short lives, they suffered great sorrow in the world, and they felt that people in deep disaster were in urgent need of help. If there is an afterlife, we should make every effort to save those who have suffered disasters. These two men died peacefully with sacred faith. After their death, one person became Guanyin and the other became the general trend.

In the above statement about Guanyin's life experience, Guanyin is all male. China made up a new life story and turned Guanyin into a woman. Around the Tang Dynasty, there appeared the legends of Malang Guanyin and fish basket Guanyin. Guanyin, the fish basket, is named after holding a fish basket. According to the Biography of Guanyin Bodhisattva, which is quoted from Fa Hua Zhi Yan Jing and Shi Ping Gu, the right people in Shaanxi in the Tang Dynasty liked riding and shooting, but they didn't know there were three treasures. In the twelfth year of Yuanhe, there was a little beauty who sold fish with a fish basket. Everyone was fascinated by her beauty and rushed to propose to her. In the face of many suitors, the fish seller made a condition that she would marry anyone who could read the Pu Men Pin Jing overnight. The next day, more than twenty people were able to recite. Then he put forward a new condition. Whoever can recite the Vajrayana Sutra overnight will marry him. Ten people could recite it the next day, so they had to be eliminated again. It is suggested that whoever can recite Hokkekyo within three days will marry him. At that time, only a horse could do it, and the fish girl would marry him. On the wedding night, Fish Girl said that she was ill and moved to another room. She died before all the people at the wedding left. The wedding turned into a funeral. A few days after the fish girl was buried, a monk in purple came. He went directly to the burial place of Fish Girl, dug the grave and opened the coffin. There is no fish girl's body in the coffin, only golden lock bones. The monk told the crowd that it was Guanyin Bodhisattva who pitied your's sin and specially incarnated to enlighten you. Say that finish, that is, use crutches to provoke the gold collarbone and fly away. Since then, there have been many Buddhists in Shaanxi and Right. Another legend of Guanyin can be found in Ye Yan (Wang Gui)' s The Interrupted Sea in Song Dynasty: Once upon a time, there was a virtuous woman named Ma Langfu who had sex with everyone on the golden beach, but anyone who had sex with her would never commit adultery. Later, Ma Lang's wife died and was buried. A monk came to dig the grave, and there was only a gold collarbone in the coffin. The monk lifted the golden collarbone with his staff and went up to the clouds. This Ma Lang Fu Guanyin is also here to save the sinful people, but this way of saving is very special.

Although the latter two legends did not really explain the origin of Guanyin, they established its female image in people's minds. During the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the story of Guanyin had a relatively complete Chinese version. There is a legend in the Northern Song Dynasty that Guanyin was originally the third daughter of Chu Zhuangwang in the Spring and Autumn Period, named Miao Shan. Wen and Wu Zhuangyuan were chosen as husbands for the eldest daughter and the second daughter respectively, and plans to inherit the throne for the third daughter Miaoshan. Miaoshan, a Buddhist since childhood, didn't want to get married at all. He is bent on cutting Nepal's hair. Chu Zhuangwang used the French method, while Miaoshan would rather die than surrender. Chu Zhuangwang was furious and ordered her to drink the sword and commit suicide. But the sword on her neck, instead of hurting her, turned into thousands of pieces. The cruel father ordered her to suffocate and let her soul go to hell. Yan Luowang, who was in charge of hell, revived her in Putuo Mountain in the South China Sea (Putuo Mountain is in the East China Sea outside Hangzhou Bay, Zhejiang Province) and stood on the lotus in a pool in Putuo Mountain when she was resurrected. Miao Shan practiced in Putuo Mountain and eventually became a bodhisattva.

Later, Chu Zhuangwang was seriously ill and dying. Miaoshan let bygones be bygones, turned into an old monk and presented a prescription for treating diseases, which required the hands and eyes of relatives to be used as medicine. The old monk asked me to go to the temple of Putuo Mountain in the South China Sea to get this medicine primer. Those who were sent to Xiangshan Temple to get the hands and eyes of their loved ones actually got the hands and eyes given by Bodhisattva. The medicine really worked, and Chu Zhuangwang was finally treated. After Chu Zhuangwang recovered from her illness, she went to Xiangshan Temple in Putuo Mountain to give thanks, only to know that the bodhisattva who offered her hands and eyes was her third daughter, Miao Shan, and felt very guilty. In order to make up for their own mistakes and express their nostalgia for their children, the best craftsman in the world created a Guanyin statue for his daughter, with his eyes on all sides and his hands on all sides. But the craftsmen listened to the "Avalokitesvara with a thousand eyes and a thousand hands" and actually carved the Avalokitesvara with a thousand eyes and a thousand hands, which is the kind of Avalokitesvara we often see now. There is another saying about the Guanyin statue with thousands of hands and thousands of eyes: In the past, Guan was robbed by the Buddha's kindness and compassion, and he vowed to be kind and compassionate, so that all people in the world would come alive from the mire and surpass the world, so he grew many eyes and hands, each with a look, * * * forty hands and forty eyes, each with a so-called twenty-five "yes" (in the three realms,

From the legend of Guanyin, Guanyin with a thousand hands and eyes was born, which is called Guanyin with a thousand hands for short. There are thousands of Guanyin statues in many temples in China. For example, in Puning Temple in Chengde City, there is Guanyin, the largest wood carving in China. This Guanyin is as high as 22? 28 meters, waist circumference 15 meters, carved with pine, cypress, elm, fir and linden, weighing about 120 tons. Bodhisattva wears a Buddha crown with a sitting Buddha inlaid on it; There is another statue on your head, isn't it 1? These two 4-meter-long Buddha statues are all infinite-lived Buddha statues, which represent Guanyin's respect for Amitabha, the main Buddha in the western paradise. Forty-two arms are arranged in a fan shape, with two hands folded in the middle. Another hand-held wheel, screw, umbrella, cover, flower, jar, fish, knife, gun, sword, halberd, sun, moon and other instruments, symbolizing boundless Buddhism and good luck. There is also the largest bronze statue of Guanyin in Dabei Pavilion in longxing temple, Zhengding County, Hebei Province. It is said that the Great Hall of Compassion in longxing temple and the Goddess of Mercy in it were built on the order of Song Taizu. Guanyin with a thousand hands mentioned above, only 12 hands to the west symbolize a thousand hands. Some temples also have a veritable thousand-handed Guanyin. For example, Kannonji, the Buddha Bay in Baoding, Dazu, Sichuan, is dedicated to a thousand-handed Guanyin with hands like fans.

Arranged in several layers, it looks as if it is triumphant, covering the cliff face of guanyin temple, which is very spectacular. According to statistics, there are more than 1000 hands of various shapes, and there are 1007 hands.

There are many forms of Guanyin, but there are also standard images, namely "Holy Guanyin" and "Zhengguanyin", which are gentle and dignified women with smiles. There are also some differences in the image of this standard, or folded hands; Or holding a Yang Liuzhi and a clean bottle; Or holding a child; Or step on a lotus or something. Many Guanyin statues are exquisite handicrafts.

Guanyin is a powerful and omnipotent bodhisattva. But the folk worship her mainly because she has countless illusory magic, but because she can send children. In modern times, people have endowed Guanyin with the function of sending children, but the sound of the world has spread her efficacy, but it is less.

There are people who help the poor, but most of them are children. So people go to Kannonji to burn incense or worship Guanyin at home, mainly to pray for their children. The concept of Guanyin Songzi is a household name, and it is well known to all women and children.

According to legend, in the first year of Tang Xianzong (AD 806), a very beautiful girl selling fish with a basket suddenly appeared somewhere in Shaanxi. Local teenagers want to get married as soon as they meet. So the girl made a request to all suitors: "If someone can recite the sutras of Guanyin Bodhisattva overnight, I will marry him. By the next morning, as many as twenty people could recite popular classics. The girl said, how can I be betrothed to twenty people by one woman? So the girl gave each of the twenty teenagers a diamond sutra, saying that whoever could recite it overnight would marry him. By the next morning, ten more teenagers could recite the Diamond Sutra smoothly. So the girl gave each of the ten teenagers a seven-volume Hokkeyo, saying that if someone could recite the seven-volume Hokkeyo in three days, I would marry him. At the end of the three-day period, only a teenager named Ma could recite Hokkekyo, so the girl who sold fish with a basket promised to marry this Ma Lang. According to the local custom, Ma Lang and the girl who sells fish in a basket happily held a grand wedding. When they sent the newlyweds to the bridal chamber, the girl selling fish with a basket said that she was a little sick and asked Ma Lang to leave the bridal chamber for a while and let her have a rest. However, before the wedding guests dispersed, the bride died and watched the girl's body rot. So I must bury this girl at once.

A few days after the girl was buried, an old monk came with Zhang Xi and asked to see Ma Lang's new wife. Ma Lang told the old monk that his daughter-in-law was dead and buried. The old monk asked to see the grave of Ma Lang's daughter-in-law. So Malang took the old monk to the grave of the new wife. The old monk opened the grave quickly with only Zhang Xi in his hand When the coffin was opened, there was no girl's body inside, only a collarbone made of gold. The old monk picked up the gold clavicle with a look around and showed it to the onlookers. At the same time, he preached Buddhism to everyone, saying, "Your custom in Shaanxi likes to ride horses and shoot arrows, and is brave and aggressive, and only advocates martial arts, which shows that you don't know that there are still the most precious things in the world, namely the three treasures of Buddha, Buddha and monk, which are the embodiment of the truth that guides people to do good. If you don't know the truth of doing good, you will commit evil obstacles and produce all kinds of bad results. This fish girl who married Ma Lang is the embodiment of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Bodhisattva enlightened, enlightened and understood the truth of doing good, benefiting all sentient beings, which reflected the great kindness and compassion of Guanyin Bodhisattva. " The old monk said these words and flew away. Since then, the number of people who believe in Buddhism in Shaanxi Province has increased day by day-carrying baskets of Guanyin.

Six avalokitesvara refers to six avalokitesvara bodhisattvas who guide six sentient beings. Briefly as follows:

(1) Great Pessimism: Breaking the Three Obstacles of the Inferno. This road is bitter and heavy, and it is appropriate to use great compassion.

(2) Mercy Guanyin: the Lord breaks the three obstacles of the Hungry Ghost Road. This road is thirsty, so it is advisable to use compassion.

(3) Master Fearless Guanyin: Master broke the triple obstacles of animal way. This way, the BM is more fierce, and it is more appropriate to use fearless.

(4) Great light shines on Guanyin: the Lord breaks the three obstacles of Asura Road. This way is full of doubts, so it is more appropriate to use general lighting.

(5) Guanyin, the husband of heaven and man: the Lord breaks the three obstacles of human nature. It is said that human nature is reasonable and things are slow, so it is called heaven and man, and it is called husband because it sees Buddha nature.

(6) The Great Brahman reached out to Guanyin: the Lord broke three obstacles. It is said that Brahman is a symbol of God and the Lord is also a minister.

In addition, the six major avalokitesvara in Taimi Department of Japan are Shengguanyin, Thousand Hands Avalokitesvara, Matou Avalokitesvara, Eleven Faces Avalokitesvara, Asura Avalokitesvara, Kongsuo Avalokitesvara and Ruyi Lunguanyin. Dongmi removed the non-empty Guanyin and added the quasi-Guanyin as the six Guanyin. Some people call it "Seven Guanyin" because there are two theories: "He Taimi" and "Dong Mi".
