The predecessor of the School of Fashion and Art Design of Xi Engineering University is the Department of Fashion of Xi Engineering University. 1in April, 1984, Northwest Textile Vocational and Technical College was approved by the Ministry of Textile Industry to set up a clothing design major. In the same year, the clothing department was established, which was the predecessor of the School of Fashion and Art Design of Xi Engineering University. After more than 20 years of development, the college has formed a multi-level, multi-specification and multi-disciplinary school-running characteristics, and was rated as one of the top ten famous schools by China Fashion Design Association 1998. The college has five undergraduate majors, including fashion design and engineering, art design, fine arts, photography and advertising, 13 professional directions and two master's programs. Among them, fashion design and engineering is the first master's degree in fashion specialty in China. Fashion design and engineering is a provincial key discipline, and the major of fashion design and engineering and art design are famous brands in Shaanxi Province respectively, and clothing materials science is a provincial quality course. The college consists of five teaching units and seven research rooms, including fashion design department, fashion engineering department, environmental art design department, visual communication department and plastic arts department. At the same time, there are teaching and research institutions such as experimental center, clothing research institute, Shaanxi clothing engineering technology center and sight culture communication center. There are 0/28 faculty members/kloc, 2,423 students and more than 80 graduate students/kloc.

The college has a strong teaching and research team, with 23 professors, 26 associate professors, 3 senior engineers and 34 intermediate titles. Among the teachers, 57% have a postgraduate degree or above, including 8 doctors. It has formed research directions such as clothing-human-environment system, functional clothing design and evaluation, clothing digital engineering and technology, clothing industry economy, clothing modeling color design theory and application, textile art design and environmental art design, image art design and communication planning. At present, it has undertaken 68 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects and various vertical and horizontal scientific research projects, published 426 academic papers in public academic journals at home and abroad, and collected 9 papers/kloc-0. In recent years, teachers have written 40 monographs and textbooks in Yu Ben, including 18 textbooks for the 11th Five-Year Plan. 40 scientific research achievements and 68 scientific research awards were obtained.

The college has a clothing building of nearly 6,000 square meters, which is a first-class place for teaching, experiment, academic exchange and teaching achievement display. The graduates trained by the college are widely welcomed by the society, and the employment rate is over 82%. Enjoy a high reputation in society. College students actively participate in international and domestic competitions, and many of them have won various awards. The students of costume performance first went to Hong Kong, Singapore, France and other European countries to perform, and were received by the Prime Minister of Singapore in Singapore. Their performances in the Louvre in France and other places won honors for the school.
